Today’s world is much different than it was 50 years ago when our grandparents were young. ?The world seems much harsher and we?don’t see humankindness as often as we should. But that doesn’t mean that kindness no longer exists because it does. You may have to look a little harder, but people around the world are coming together to unleash the healing power of humanity. One kind gesture?of generosity, thoughtfulness or respect can make the world of difference in our lives.
I remember years ago, when my dad was still alive and we lived next door to my parents; my mom’s co-worker?was battling breast cancer and going through weekly chemotherapy treatments. Life was so rough for her, but my mom was there by her side, lending her a shoulder to cry on and a ride to the clinic when she needed it. A simple gesture like that friendship made a world of difference in her life and to this day, the two are still friends.
And that’s what Dignity Health wants to provide for their patients – humankindness. They realize that you’re more than just a patient. You’re a human being and deserve compassion. Each patient’s physical, mental, and spiritual needs are met and they believe that a person’s wellbeing is promoted by this healing philosophy.
The human spirit feeds off encouragement and kindness and I can’t think of anything that breast cancer patients need more during their treatment than a compassionate’support group. These women are stronger than they realize, braver than you’d think?and perform heroic acts everyday just by taking care of their families and empowering other women who are fighting their same fight.
In 2015 alone, over 200,000 women (new cases) will be affected by invasive breast cancer. That’s a scary number and why it’s so important to?get a mammogram to check for signs of breast cancer. ?Be proactive and schedule your screening today.
In what ways do you show humankindness?
