If you’re a naughty mom like me, then, you let your kid watch the occasional television. And, it becomes inevitable that some commercial will come on, promising young ones riches beyond their dreams. Or, I can only assume that is how Sonshine heard it because as soon as the commercial is over, he’s all over me, begging for whatever item was just on t.v.! Just as I was about to give in to his latest obsession, I was given the chance to try it out!
Squishy Baff, which was just voted one of Time to Play’s Most Wanted Toy for 2012, is a fun alternative to just a regular ole bath. Each box contains enough for two small baths or one large bath (which is what we did) or kiddie pool. Prior to use, test a small batch on your child’s skin for sensitivity and on a small area of your tub in case of staining. If your child has a cut, open sore or wound, wait to use Squishy Baff.
Fill up your tub with luke warm water and sprinkle the Step One Squishy Maker package, it’ll be whatever color you bought, we got to try out red, and evenly sprinkle it over the water and mix throughout. You’ll start to see the water gel up right away, ours ended up with some clumps, and the full effect could take up to ten minutes. Now, comes the fun part! Throw that munchkin in the tub! Okay, not really. This stuff is slippery, so gently help your kid into the tub and advise them to stay seated during play.
Our bath never got as “googey” as in the commercials, I’m sure part of that was human error, but Sonshine still had fun. He squished it between his fingers and toes, he slung it across the tub, much to my chagrin, and scooped it up with cups. Unfortunately, since the water you start with isn’t too warm, it cools pretty quickly and Sonshine wanted out after twenty minutes. I transferred him to our master bathroom and quickly rinsed him off with cool water before scrubbing him down in a shower so that the gel didn’t stick to him. I noticed he had a slight red tinge, but that cleaned off after another bath.
Now, take the Step Two Dissolver package and sprinkle it evenly over the entire bath. Mix it in and add about an inch more water, allowing up to ten minutes for the Squishy Baff to dissolve. Drain and rinse with water. If any goo is left, sprinkle a few tablespoons of salt over it and rinse again.
Squishy Baff is easy to use and a fun surprise for any kid at bath time or outside in the pool! For younger kids, it’s a great use for a sensory bin. And older children will love the squishy feeling between their toes and maybe, even grossing out grandma with it!
