I am a huge fan of technology and I love seeing what new things comes out next. I love technology for myself but I also love seeing what new and exciting things are being developed for my kids to enjoy. We have everything from iPhones to video games in my house but so far my girls only have a few toys that have really fun technology for them to enjoy. That is until our Creative Baby I-Mat arrived and I saw how many great things one mat can really do!

Creative Baby Inc., developers of products to excite, challenge and simply delight tots, introduced in August i-Mat: My Animal World on its website, www.creativebabyinc.com. The first in a series of themed interactive foam mats, the colorful play land is made of four interlocking soft sections that are activated when used with its Voice Pen. Babies and older siblings learn while exploring the illustrated mat with a simple point on the “word bubble.” They’re instantly rewarded with an animal sound, a word, music or a foreign language translation! Newborn babies can enjoy the mat without the pen?the mat is phthalate-, lead- and heavy metal-free, and no electronics mean no worries for wiping the mat clean.
To get started I just made sure the pen was on. Then I pushed it to the on/off square and then picked the language (English) to play with. It can easily be switched between the two games as well just by pointing the pen to game squares.
Beyond learning a new language, the i-Mat grows intellectually with your baby. When the child is old enough to hold the pen without help, the brain cells get a great workout as learning games on the mat become more and more challenging as hidden sounds are everywhere! For tots 3 to 6 years old there’s advanced programs for the Voice pen such as interactive talking flash cards, posters, wall decals, stickers, books and more.
Go ahead and roll on the floor with this soft play mat, ideal for between nap and meal times! Featuring a full color illustration of animals from around the world, the i-Mat serves as a fun visual play land with dozens of cute animals that toddlers can’t resist nor their older siblings. Animal name clouds stimulate the visual connection of the words with corresponding images and animal names. Point and wait for the sound!
Both my 22 month old and my 4 year old love this mat! Both can play with it at their own skill level.
My youngest likes to hit the pen around and hear the different sounds, noises and correstponding words. She has to really be in the mood to pick out an animal I ask her to. She can but she just won’t if she does not feel like it.
Here is my youngest playing with it. My video skills on my phone are definitely lacking.
My 4 year old likes to play with it
using the different languages. She also likes the pen to ask her
questions and then she has to find the right picture that goes with the
answer. There are just so many options when playing with this mat.
Here is a very short clip of my oldest playing on the I-Mat. Don’t mind the roaming toddler.
The mat it is so nice and sturdy. Not at all like the flimsy letter mat I have in the girl’s playroom that is constantly coming apart. I can tell this one is of much higher quality. When your kids are not playing with it you can use it as just a plain mat.
For those with more than one child that don’t like to share or for those that might use this in a classroom setting you can buy additional voice pens. A special bonus is the voice recorder is ready to capture first words, giggles and beginner foreign language expressions.
The mat is so brightly colored and fun to look at. I don’t know of any other toy that offers such a huge “game board” so to speak for children to play on. They can roll all over this, and they both have. I also love that there is no cords, wires or electronic peices to worry about. It is just a pen and a mat that blend together to form the perfect toy for kids of any age from toddler to preschooler! This is exactly what I am looking for in a toy when I want something that has technology at the forefront of the game. I want my girls to learn and have fun at the same time and this has proven to do that times 100!
My girls love this so much that I hide it when they are not playing with it. Only because they would be playing with it all day long and they need to eat and nap too!
