We may live in a digital world, but I am still a fan of traditional cookbooks. There is just something special about flipping through the pages, in search of the perfect recipe. Since an air fryer has been on my wish-list for a bit here, I was quite excited to check out The Easy Air Fryer Cookbook, so that I could try some of their recipes, and I thought that you all might enjoy this Asian Turkey Meatballs Recipe. Do you have to defrost meatballs before cooking?
Whether cooked or not, you should defrost meatballs the night before you plan to serve them. Simply take them out of the freezer and place into the refrigerator.
Do meatballs freeze well?
Meatballs do freeze well, and are generally good for up to 3 months after being frozen.
Asian Turkey Meatballs Recipe
These Asian Turkey Meatballs are such a delicious, yet better for you spin on a classic favorite of my family’s. They’re perfect for our Asian dinner nights, and we love to serve homemade egg rolls on the side! These Blueberry Yogurt Tartlets would make a delicious dessert pairing to this recipe.
- 1â„3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- cloves garlic, cut in half
- 1 green onion, white and green portion, cut into small pieces
- 1 pound ground turkey breast
- 1 teaspoon reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 large egg
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- pitted prunes
- 1 clove garlic, cut in half
- 3â„4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
- tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 teaspoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1â„4 teaspoon granulated sucralose sweetener (such as Splenda Blend for Baking)
- 1â„4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
- green onion, white and green portion, chopped
- In the work bowl of a food processor, process the rolled oats until finely chopped. Add 3 cloves garlic and the green onion; pulse until finely chopped.
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together the turkey, the rolled oat mixture, soy sauce, and the egg. With moistened hands, lightly shape into 20 (11â„2-inch) meatballs. Arrange the meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray the meatballs with nonstick cooking spray for 2 seconds.
- Set the temperature to 350°F and air fry for 7 minutes. Turn the meatballs. Air fry an additional 7–9 minutes or until the meatballs are done and a meat thermometer inserted in the center registers 165°F.
- While the meatballs are air frying, place the prunes and 1 clove garlic in the work bowl of a food processor. Pulse until the prunes are finely chopped. Add the chicken broth and process until well blended and the prunes are very finely chopped. Pour the prune mixture into a small saucepan. Stir in the balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, sweetener, and pepper. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture comes to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer 1–2 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- Place the cooked meatballs in a serving bowl. Pour the hot sauce over the meatballs and stir to coat well. Sprinkle with the green onions.
