How much scent do you add to soap?
How much scent to add to your soap is really based on your preference. It’s said that you can use around one teaspoon per pound of soap. That is probably your best bet if you’d like a really fragrant soap.
What can you use to scent soap?
I like to use essential oils or fragrance oils to scent my homemade soap. Some people use coffee or tea to naturally scent their homemade soap loaves too.

Candy Cane Soap DIY

Materials
- 1 lb of goat’s milk melt and pour soap base
- Red mica powder
- 40-60 drops of Peppermint essential oil
- Silicone soap mold
- 2 heat safe measuring cups
- 2 candy canes
- Wooden craft sticks for stirring
- Spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol
Instructions
- Cut the soap base into 1 inch cubes and place in a measuring cup.Â
- Heat in 30 second increments until fully melted, stirring well between each heating session.
- While the soap base is melting, crush the candy canes.
- Once the soap is fully melted, add essential oil. Stir well.
- Pour half of the soap base into the other measuring cup and add mica powder. I used about ½ teaspoon, but you can use less or more, depending on the color you’d like to achieve. Stir until the color is completely blended.
- Pour a very thin layer of one color into the soap mold. Spray with rubbing alcohol. (this allows the layered to adhere together.) Allow to dry.
- Pour the other color over the first color, but not directly covering the entire layer. You will want a swirling effect, so just do a thin layer in a pattern such as a zig zag, over that layer. Spray with rubbing alcohol.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7, alternating between the white and pink/red soap base, until you have filled the mold. You will need to stir the soap base between layers, and you may need to reheat the soap base from time to time. You can reheat in 10 second bursts, as needed.
- Once you have filled the mold, sprinkle the crushed candy canes down the middle, and lightly pat them in so that they stay in the soap.
