I learned something quite shocking the other day, and I think that it may shock you as well. Many girls right here in the United States cannot afford period products like pads. These period poverty statistics are shocking, to say the least, and that’s why I am honored to work on this project to spread awareness of this serious issue!
Imagine being a girl in middle or high school and having your period. Now imagine that your family’s money is so tight that you can not afford pads. What would you do?
If that were me, I would likely stay home from school. It sure beats the embarrassment of an “accident”, and we all know how quickly those can happen.
And that’s exactly what does occur with many of these girls.? In fact, 1 in 5 girls in the US have missed school because they can’t afford period protection. They miss school, then they miss their sports activities, and sometimes, they even miss out on friendships. It’s despairing to say the least, and I feel there is so much more that can be done to make sure that every girl in the US has access to pads.
Well, Always and Walmart are doing something about it, through their Always Live #LikeAGirl movement and I want to share all about it with you. Always Live #LikeAGirl helps girls boost their confidence by staying in sports and persevering through failure. And of course, missing out on these activities may just make them lose some confidence, which can be just devastating. Please take a moment to check out the video below to learn more about the Always Live #LikeAGirl campaign.
Always and Walmart are giving a years worth of pads to 50 teams in 50 states. Through this partnership, parents and girls on these teams won’t have to worry about missing out on practice anymore, because pads will be available to them. You can also help by’sharing this Always Live #LikeAGirl YouTube video across your social channels.
Let’s #EndPeriodPoverty and change these?period poverty statistics! I will continue to buy my Always pads at Walmart every month, and I am asking all of you to do the same.
