When Sara Tidhar suddenly became a single mom, she had to quickly find a way to make ends meet. She found solace at her stove while trying to think of what to do next. When her son said ?Mom, you should sell those nuts you make for us,? Sara thought, why not? She had always made roasted nuts as a healthy snack for her kids, and the kids were crazy about them. Sara’s love of good seasonings had been passed down from her grandfather, who had traveled the world as a spice trader. Stove. Nuts. Spices. Family. The idea launched a new chapter in her life and a profitable business.
We’re a bit nutty for nuts in our household. They’re a quick snack and always perk up a meal. In fact, my little guy has been obsessed with pistachios and regular peanuts in a shell for a couple years now, so we always opt for those as snacks over chips and other fattening snacks. Sometimes though, we get tired of munching on the same flavors all the time, so we were all excited to try out all nine flavors that Sant? Nuts has to offer.
Sant? Nuts are roasted in small batches using a secret method which makes for minimal oil absorption and produces a crispy crunch and balanced flavors of each and every nut. Each variety is gluten-free, peanut-free, non-GMO, and vegan! Great for just about every diet. It was no surprise to anyone that Sonshine ripped right into the Candied Pistachios when the box arrived. He loved the sweetness the pure cane sugar added, but announced to us that they were more of a ‘treat’ pistachio and I agree. My husband loved the Cinnamon Pecans the most, I think I was able to snag one or two before he devoured the whole bag! They were the right amount of sweet and heat. Personally, I was partial to the Cardamom Cashews. They have a very light, almost flowery flavor and would be great on salad. The six other flavors are equally as great and vary from spicy, to sweet, to salty. There’s a flavor to satisfy anything you’re craving.
So, August 10th was National S’mores Day. There’s still plenty of summer left to make a sweet treat using Sant? Nuts before the kids head back to school, or as a surprise treat after a long first week back!
You’re going to need:
- Ice Cream Cones
- Sante Nuts (any flavor)
- Mini-mallows
- Chocolate Chips
- Fruit of choice (we used grapes and bananas)
Put all the goodies in bowls so each person can add what they want the way they want
Our cones were tiny, I should have crushed up the nuts and chopped the mallows even smaller. Sonshine added grapes and Candied Pistachios. He was in love and this kid dislikes S’mores!
How yummy does that look? Wrap in aluminum foil, place in a 275 degree oven for 2-3 minutes or on a grill over indirect heat. Allow to cool then dive in! I found the walnuts with bananas to be the perfect balance of sweet and salty (and the chocolate didn’t hurt either!) This recipe was from George Duran and is called Nutty S’more Cones, original post found here.
With nine varieties total, you can do numerous varieties with multiply flavors for this fun S’mores treat, or find ways to spice up snack times or meals.
