~I received a copy of Against the Wild on DVD for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Against the Wild is a Family Adventure film starring CJ Adams (The Odd Life of Timothy Green) and Erin Pit (Silent Hill: Revelation) as Zach and Hanna; siblings who find themselves lost in the wild with their loyal dog Chinook.
The film begins with obvious references to the separation between Zach and Hanna’s parents (Natasha Henstridge and Ted Whittall) and their typical sibling annoyances. While on their way to fly out to their Father’s, their seaplane catches fire and crashes in the wild. The children set out to find their father’s camp which begins a dangerous journey where they have to learn to work together and also come to deeper truths about themselves and their parents.
While the children trek through the wilderness, their parents come together to deal with dangers of their own. A fire breaks out in the forest rendering the search more difficult. In the midst of the family is their faithful dog Chinook, an Alaskan Malamute that turns from an over-excitable house pet to a working dog that defends the children with his life against wolves and even a grizzly bear.
This is a great family movie! There are a lot of lessons here for children as both Zach and Hanna use their smarts and skills in order to trek their way through the northern wilds that most never make it out of. The scenery of Northern Canada is completely breathtaking in the autumn and I love seeing the animals that make appearances, though I wouldn’t want to have to face a grizzly down!
