Super Duper Publications is now my go to online store for educational games that work on language, vocabulary and speech skills. They have hundreds of games and by poking around their website there is sure to be a game that is not only a ton of fun to play but one that works on strengthening the skills of a child you know. Think Christmas gift that will actually be played with all year long instead of forgotten a week after opening it.
Go For The Dough? Board Game for Grades Pre K+.
To some, dough means money and to others it’s the basis of a yummy pizza. In this fun game, kids get to deliver pizzas, make big bucks and increase vocabulary! All ages will love this fast- paced, vocabulary enriching and word meaning (semantics) board game. Go for the Dough will help kids improve their word recall, describing, semantic flexibility and phonemic awareness skills. Players start at the Pizza Palace. As students drive their cars around the board to deliver their imaginary pizzas, they choose Super Dough Dollars. Each of the 480 Super Dough Dollars reviews a language skill that is crucial in expanding word knowledge.
For this game my husband and I played with our 5 year old preschooler. It was actually a really great game! For the first round we played with opposites and she would have to tell us the opposite of the word. The next round we mixed up the cards to make it harder. You have to deliver the pizzas to grandma’s house and you get the stash of dollars for your work. This is a great game that is fast-paced and I could just watch her little brain thinking when it was her turn.
Photo Fish Classifying Magnetic Game for Grades Pre K+.
Little fishermen and women will get hooked on Photo Fish as they improve their sorting and classifying skills. These magnetic foam fish come with stickers showing photos of everyday items in the categories of Transportation, Clothing, Animals, Food and Around the Home. Grab a fishing pole, choose a category then reel in the fish that matches it! Comes with 60 stickers and 55 magnetic photo fish.
This is Lil Sis’ board game review debut. She recently turned 2 so we normally host family game night once she is in bed. She saw us setting this one up and we figured we would let her try it. She is below the recommended age level so we figured we would just her play with the fishing pole. She blew us away with how well she did at this game! Each player gets a category (like food from the picture above). Then the players take turns fishing to find a picture that matches their category. If they get a match they keep the fish. Not only did we have Lil Sis identify the picture on each fish she caught but we would then ask her “is that in your food category” and she usually would get it right! I guess we won’t be having family game night with her in bed anymore! My preschooler also had a blast playing and I felt it was great for motor skills as well because it takes a little concentration to get that magnet to pick up the fish. The magnet is only strong enough to pick up one fish at a time and only after the player has lined it up fairly well together.
Every family should have game night! We turn off all electronics (minus when I am doing review photos) and just play. The educational ones are a bonus since they have a bit of learning involved but in no way does that affect the “fun” of these Super Duper Publications games. Holiday shopping is starting so order your games now so you can get them in time for Christmas!
