My family has a very giving nature and we love to give back to our community and help others whenever we are able. I guess you could call it good Karma and hopefully people would do the same for us if ever the need arises. I was ecstatic when I was chosen for the #Dole4Kids mission to hold a food drive to gather healthy snacks for kids through Champions for Kids! It’s one of my favorite organizations and I just love to partner with them!
The kids got involved in this project with me and it has been so heartwarming to see their giving nature shine through. I’m so proud of them! Our first step was spreading the word about our food drive, so I made some fliers to pass out to family and friends.
Earlier this week, Lil Man and I shopped at Walmart for Dole Squish’ems and Dole Fruit Cups for our food drive. He was so excited to help pick out the stuff we would donate. Of course once he saw the Dole Squish’ems, he wanted to try them too! He requested some after we had left the store, so I promised to buy some just for him the next time I go!
I gathered all of the things that we had purchased after we got home. We sure did get a lot of stuff! I know that our donation will make such a huge impact on children in our community through our local food pantry. It’s important for kids to get proper nutrition, so these snacks will provide great fruit nutrition for kids that otherwise might not get it!
I think the kids will have fun slurping up the Dole Squish’ems and not even realize they’re a “good for you” fruit pouch snack!
Once I had gone through the donations from our friends and family, I boxed it all up. We had almost a full box of food with items like boxed meals, mac n cheese, soups, fruits and veggies. It meant to much to me to see my family and friends go that extra mile and give to others while helping the kids and I through our food drive.
You can see the excitement on Lil Man’s face. It really meant a lot to him to be involved in this food drive. He did ask if we can do it again sometime, so I’m thinking holiday time will be perfect! We will do a food and toy drive to help families in our community have a wonderful holiday!
Our donations are all boxed and ready to go. We’re still waiting on items from a few more family members that we’ll see over this coming weekend. I can’t wait to see how much we have collected after that! Stay tuned next week because I will be posting a follow up story on our actual donation to the food pantry. I’d like to take both kids with me this time so that they can see how much this little task will mean to the people who work there; as well as to the people we will help! It will be a great life lesson for them!
The Champions for Kids mission is to help give kids in our communities the tools they need to thrive. They believe {as do I} that all children should have someone who cares and a place to belong as well as hope for tomorrow and provisions for their journey.
You can get involved too!
There are many ways to help others through Champions for Kids. You can help through Simple Service Projects, becoming a sponsor or even a member. Every little bit helps to make a difference in the life of a child. No gift is too small!
