I can’t believe Thanksgiving is just one week away! This year has flown by so fast, it seems to have just came and went!
I’m gearing up for our family Thanksgiving this year. For the first time in many years, we will not be having Thanksgiving at our house. We will actually be traveling to the area that we used to live in, which is just over a 30 minute drive. Our Thanksgiving will be pot luck style, where everyone will bring something. Since we do have a long drive, I cannot bring anything that requires to stay warm or stay cold. My options are pretty slim!
I told my husband’s aunt that I would bring some appetizers and a dessert. Knowing the kind of things that my kids and brothers like to snack on during the holiday gatherings, I thought a Cheese & Sausage Platter would be perfect! I used Hillshire Farm Beef Summer Sausage, Pepperjack Cheese and Cheddar Cheese.
Of course I want it to look pretty since it’s Thanksgiving, so I played around with some layout ideas. I think I like this one the best! It’s very easy to arrange too, the cutting of the meat and cheese was actually the longest part! Here are some tips for you to try this at home:
- Use a smaller but sharp knife such as a paring knife to cut the Summer Sausage.
- Cheese is easiest to cut with a marble block cheese cutter. I’m telling you, they are a time and sanity saver!
- Arrange cheese first. Use 2 different types {I did Pepperjack and Marble Cheddar} and arrange them with the bottom of piece touching, the top about another sliced width apart. Next arrange the other cheese on top of that layer, but in between the top part of the bottom slices so that you don’t see any of your platter.
- Put 2 pieces of Summer Sausage smack dab in the middle of the platter.Arrange the rest of the pieces around that, overlapping eachother to make a circle. When you get to the end of your circle, put that last piece behind your first piece so that it all flows nicely. Add one more piece to the middle to complete the look!
Your platter will be sure to please and be a great filler to keep everyone from hunger pangs until that turkey is done!
