?The Great Mouse Detective? Mystery in the Mist Edition

As soon as we got our review copy my oldest daughter wanted to watch it immediately. We sat down with some popcorn and watched it as a family. My husband especially enjoyed watching it since he remembered watching the original as a young child. This classic looks better than ever in this newest release edition. This fast paced detective adventure is exciting and the characters are extremely likeable. It will surely be one of our new family favorites.

The movie takes place in 1897 London and a young Olivia
finds herself looking for the famous detective, Basil of Baker Street, to
help find her father that was recently kidnapped by a peg-legged
bat. The bat is the henchman of Professor Ratigan that has an evil plan
cooking for the Mouse Queen’s diamond jubilee. Basil and his newly
acquired sidekick Dawson go on the quest to get Olivia’s Dad back and in
the process find themselves on a journey that proves heroes can come in
small packages.

My only warning so to speak would be that there is a part in the movie when the mice go to a seedy pub and they are smoking and drinking drinks out of beer mugs. This was not a problem for me at all but you have to remember when this film originally came out in the 80s it was more socially acceptable to see those behaviors in a movie.

Overall this is a super cute movie for family movie night and would be a great addition to your DVD collection. I sure love an old fashion detective story and this movie far exceeded my expectations. We especially loved watching it in Blu-ray which offers such nice picture quality.
