Nothing speaks of early summer like seafood, at least for me. I grew up on the coasts of Maryland and Deleware, crabbing and fishing in the ocean with my parents and a piece of string with a chicken leg on the end. The taste of good Seafood brings me back to those days in the hot summer when I was little and had a much better tan. The taste of home resides in the good morsels of shellfish dipped in hot butter and season salt: crab, lobster, clams and of course Shrimp.
Shrimp is a hard dish for me to pull off. I’ve never, ever, in my life been capable of cooking shrimp right and it seems so easy! What could be hard about cooking a tiny shellfish? So for me, someone who loves seafood (especially shrimp), it’s a disaster waiting to happen. The other issue is, grocers and restaurants seem to raise the price of seafood (especially in summer) every year and it’s absurdly expensive to get a nice butterfly shrimp dish. Of course you could order the popcorn shrimp but most places serve more breading than shrimp, which is why it’s generally cheap. Those beautiful large butterfly shrimp crusted over with shredded coconut… that’s an easy $15 – $25 meal.
Which brings me to this conclusion. Having a fortunate equivalent is the best choice and this is it. I’ve done a review on SeaPak before, for their normal sized Butterfly Shrimp box and Popcorn Fish. Since then, this is the only shrimp I buy for my dinners. I can’t trust myself to cook shrimp without completely ruining it and I know that SeaPak’s Coconut Butterfly Shrimp is incredibly delicious and looks like it was delivered from a restaurant!

The SeaPak Family Size Coconut Shrimp is perfect. It’s 18oz and comes with a zesty marmalade dipping sauce. We had it just as it was, with the dipping sauce, however here are a few great recipes to try!
- Island Coconut Shrimp Salad
- Coconut Shrimp Stirfry
- Tropical Coconut Shrimp Salad
The Coconut Shrimp was very crispy, the crunch with the firm yet moist shrimp morsels are perfect. The dipping sauce complimented it well, the zest being a citrus-y bite not unlike an orange sauce. In my opinion, the whole box as it is could be eaten between 3 people or you could pair it with fish, steak or rice and serve it for a family of 5. I also think this would be a decent amount as an appetizer for a little home get-together!
