Author and illutrator Maxine Lee’s bright colors and whimsical illustrations, in the vein of Oliver Jeffers, draw children and parents alike into this amusing story of perseverance and friendship. It is listed for ages 4 to 7 but my 2 and a half year old very much enjoyed me reading it to her too! of course my 5 year old thought it was hilarious!
Maxine Lee was born in Liverpool, Merseyside, where she still lives with her partner and their two boys. She taught a range of creative subjects before taking a step back to concentrate on her career as an author/illustrator. Her debut children’s book, Pi-Rat, was published in August 2013 by Caterpillar Books in the U.K.
I have amassed quite a collection of children’s books over the years. I am a librarian after all and I just can’t help myself! This book itself is of the highest quality. It has an extremely sturdy binding and with big, thick and glossy pages which is exactly what I look for in books. I would absolutely pick up this book to buy for a child’s birthday gift because it is that great of a book! I will definitely have to check out her debut book Pi-Rat next. This is a book to read over and over as it gets my girls laughing every time.
