DIY Photo Tile Coaster
Materials:
~Tile
~Mod Podge
~Paint Brush
~Photos
~Cork/felt
~Clear Coat Finish
~Super Glue/hot glue (depending on material used to make your tile scratch proof)
Don?t worry you can take the easy way out and purchase your tile, but when you have a bucket of used tile in your workshop waiting to be repurposed one must use heat. Yes, its just an excuse to use my heat gun (aka embossing gun). I heated up the old glue and scrapped it off.
Now lets talk about what type of pictures you plan to use.? I had leftover baby announcement cards (card stock) that I used.? I do not throw anything away so I had to find a way to repurpose my announcements. You can go to your chosen photo lab and have your pictures printed on photograph (gloss/matte) paper, print them on copy paper, cut out magazine pictures, or even use fabric.
Step 1:
Clean your tile with soap and water.
Step 2:
Cut your photo slightly smaller than your tile.
Step 3:
Cover your tile with Mod Podge.
Step 4:
Place your photo on the center of your tile.? Get a credit card or similar tool to smooth out your photo onto the tile.? Work from the center of your photograph to the outer edges.? This will keep out all the air bubbles.
Step 5:
Once your photo is secure cover your photo with Mod Podge.? Let it dry 15-20 minutes then cover it again.? I covered mine a third time since I was working with card stock.
Step 6:
Once your tile is dry add your clear coat (spray/varnish).? Wait about 30 minutes and add another coat to make your tile scratch proof.
Step 7:
To keep from scratching your furniture I would suggest that you either hot glue felt squares on all four corners or if you’re like me and have a roll of cork lying around, use it.? I cut my cork just slightly smaller than my tile and super glued it to the back of my tile.
