My girls love Disney Junior’s new series Sofia the First. This is a sweet series about a blended family. Princess Sofia’s dad gives her a magical amulet that allows her to talk to animals as a special gift. In this DVD the royal family goes on vacation, and Clover, Sofia’s pet is a stowaway. When they first arrive Sofia meets a mermaid named Oona and she gets tangled up in the ships safety gear. She becomes injured and cannot swim home. Sofia offers to help Oona swim home. As Sofia begins to prepare for the trip her amulet grants her the power to transform into a mermaid. Now she is able to visit her new friend’s secret underwater kingdom.
Oona’s family wants to rid their cove of The Floating Palace because they believe the humans want to harm them. When Sofia tries to explain that her family wouldn’t hurt them she ends up revealing she is a human. As Sofia returns to The Floating Palace Oona is captured by Cedric (sea monster). On her adventure to save Oona from Cedric (sea monster), Princess Ariel is summoned by her magic amulet. Sofia knows that she needs help, but her family doesn’t believe that there are mermaids. Oona’s family thinks the humans are responsible for Oona’s disappearance and the Mermaid Queen is conjuring a typhoon. Princess Ariel puts things in perspective with a song. You will have to buy the movie to find out the ending.
Princess Ariel is my daughter’s most favorite princess, and naturally it was her favorite part of the movie. She also liked The Floating Palace. Who wouldn?t I liked it myself. What a wonderful family oriented DVD that teaches our children about good values, friendship and family. My daughters and I really enjoyed all four episodes of Sofia the First.
