The dough that glows!
Arts and crafts are a big hit in our home. I mean, you’re probably hard pressed to find a four year old who doesn’t want to color, cut, paste, or sculpt, but, Sonshine is all over creating things! So, it was no surprise to me, when in between some re-runs of a certain mouse, my kid screamed, “I HAVE to have the Lumi Dough moooooommmmmmie!” Details are not exaggerated. The commercial had everything he needed and not a whole lot this mom could object to.
So, what is Lumi Dough, asides the dough that glows? It is a “dough” made of silicone material, most often found in things like baby bottles, cookware, even medical equipment. It is heat resistant, non-toxic, and non-allergenic. The dough is slightly slick and can be a bit slippery if on the floor or a smooth counter because silicone contains oil, much like the oils in use of baby lotions. Each kit comes with a small sheet you can bake your creations on, three sizes of star cut-outs, five different colors, and a plastic mat to create on.
Sonshine was breaking into the box before I knew it. He was eager to see how the Lumi Dough felt (“Like slime but not like slime.”) and was very excited to be able to make shapes and take them apart without the colors blending or bleeding together. That’s a big bonus in my book. Other dough is done for the moment other colors are introduced and you usually end up with a brown muck of squished up craft instead of a fun animal.
Like a blue monkey my four year old made. That’s how easily pliable Lumi Dough is. And when he was done monkeying around, he simply pulled the colors apart and smoothed them back down to store for his next project.
We’re still a bit obsessed with the game Bad Piggies, so Sonshine made a few to toss around while he pretended to be an Angry Bird. In the background, you can see the stars I cut out using the included cutters. I simply rolled out the dough and smoothed it down like I was baking, to make nice, even but thin stars. We took the stars and stuck them on his new bedroom fan above his brand new bed and let them soak up the sunlight. I wish I had not accidentally deleted the picture we took because when it was bed time, those stars shone bright. Brighter than any of the glow in the dark stickers you can get out there. They came down after a few days so he could make something new. That’s my other favorite part. Lumi Dough doesn’t dry out in a day or two, or four. If you forget to pack it up one afternoon, you’re not our your money, it’s still soft and pliable. Eventually, it will start to dry out, but you can either warm it back up in your hands, or just store it in a plastic baggie or container.
If you’re looking for a new arts and craft supply that can be used again and again, as far as your child’s imagination and is just about preschooler proof, then order a kit or even two and get crafty today!
