If you’re planning a short getaway to Savannah, Georgia, and want a solid two-day plan that blends history, good food, and tasty cocktails, here’s exactly how our group of four did it. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or just want to make the most of your time, this guide keeps it simple and stress-free.

How to Plan a short getaway to Savannah
Where to stay
We stayed in a charming airbnb right by Forsyth Park, and there are a ton of options to choose from in that area, for all budget types. This was a great option for walking tours of the city, and is also close to one of the Old Town Trolley Tours stops which makes travelling the city easier.
There are some great hotels towards the river as well, and I think we’ll pick one of those for our next visit to Savannah; mostly since that area was my favorite and I appreciate the ammenities and housekeeping that hotels provide.
Where to Eat in Savannah
Savannah has some great options for dining, and I have an entire list of options to try for my next trip there. Below I’ve included the restaurants that stood out the most for me during our trip, and had excellent food.
Brunch at Toast
Start your morning at Toast—a relaxed spot with Southern staples and solid coffee. Opt for the outdoor seating, and you should definitely try a mimosa. I ordered a classic breakfast and I was excited to see fresh fruit on the menu. Service is friendly, portions are generous, and it’s an easy walk from most Historic District hotels.
Lunch at The Warehouse Bar & Grille
For a midday meal, The Warehouse Bar & Grille on River Street has you covered. It’s casual and quick, with burgers, appetizers, and cold beer. It’s not fancy, but it’s dependable, delicious, and right in the middle of all the action.
Dinner at Mellow Mushroom
After a full day of walking, Mellow Mushroom hits the spot. Great pizza, funky decor, and perfect for groups. The house-made crust is chewy and crisp, and there’s a good mix of local brews on tap.

Where to Have Cocktails
Since this was a girl’s trip and we did an awful lot of walking around the city, cocktail pit stops were a must! Here were a few of my favorites.
Wet Willie’s
If you want something cold and fun while strolling along River Street, grab a frozen drink at Wet Willie’s. Pick your flavor, mix and match, and take it to-go. It’s not fancy, but it’s iconic Savannah.
Peregrin Rooftop Bar
For something more elevated—literally—head to Peregrin Rooftop Bar. Great views, strong cocktails, and a modern vibe. This is the place to sip a crafted drink, watch the sunset, and take a few group photos with the skyline behind you.

What to Do in Savannah’s Historic District
Old Town Trolley Tours
The best way to explore the city without exhausting your feet is hopping on the Old Town Trolley Tour. It’s a hop-on, hop-off system, so you can get off at any stop to explore, then hop back on when you’re ready. It’s a great mix of history and convenience.
I definitely recommend getting the two day pass, starting with your first day. We decided to do this after we walked the entire city the day before. Lesson learned, so don’t make the same mistake!
Forsyth Park (Free)
A must-see. The fountain is one of the most photographed spots in Savannah, and the shaded walking paths are perfect for a slow afternoon stroll.

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (Free)
This cathedral is stunning inside and out. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the architecture, stained glass, and quiet peace it offers.
American Prohibition Museum
Located in the City Market area, this museum dives into Prohibition-era stories with a fun twist—there’s a working speakeasy inside. You’ll learn a lot, and maybe walk out with a new favorite cocktail recipe.
Bonaventure Cemetery (Free)
A short drive from downtown, this historic cemetery is hauntingly beautiful. Giant oaks, Spanish moss, and intricate gravestones make it feel like a step back in time. Take your time walking the grounds or hop on one of the paid guided golf cart tours.

Savannah Riverboat Cruises
If you’re ending the day with something relaxing, book a Savannah Riverboat Cruise. You can choose sightseeing or dinner options, but either way, the view from the water is worth it.
They have the best margarita I’ve tried, along with other great food and drink offerings. It’s a great way to experience the city.
Savannah’s Historic District is the kind of place where every corner has a story, and every meal feels like comfort food. Whether you’re in town with friends, family, or just there to explore, the mix of history, flavor, and fun makes this Southern city one worth coming back to.
As you’re exploring during your short getaway to Savannah, you’re sure to appreciate the history, architecture and beautiful nature of this lovely city.
