So, I am not a master chess player. In fact, I have only played chess a handful of times in my life, back when I was a teen. I wish that I had learned to play better, or to fully understand the game. Well now there is an easy way to teach kids to play chess thanks to Story Time Chess. This is a partnered post, though all opinions are my own.
Story Time Chess is a great tool to teach your kids chess, and may also help you to learn if you’re not so hot at the game yourself! Story Time Chess uses an interactive storybook to help teach kids about chess through fun characters. Kids can visualize the pieces through these character cutouts that are attached to the chess pieces, which helps to understand how each piece moves.
Story Time Chess is based on a chess teaching method that has been utilized and perfected over the last 12 years through a New York City-based company called Chess At Three, which has successfully taught over 80,000 children in the last decade how to play chess through stories. The brand-new game compresses 12 years of knowledge from teaching young kids how to play chess and the result is a beautifully designed game that can teach any person from age 3-103 how to play chess through fun engaging stories and exercises.
Once the children hear the stories, they will be prepared to play full games of chess, and be able to understand. There are also fun mini games, and a card game that encourages children to use all of the pieces on the chess board.
The card game puts an additional fun spin on things by having children do things like moving a pawn two times, and then make a noise like a race car afterwards. Another card tells kids to move a rook two times, and then say “rubber baby buggy bumper” after each move.
Story Time Chess is a great tool to teach kids to play chess. It provides a fun and interactive experience for children ages 3 and up, and is a fun activity for families to do together, while learning along the way.
