10 Fun Family Games at Home to Play

With people across the country, and the world, being stuck inside during this social distancing quarantine, families are looking for things to do to occupy the time that they would otherwise spend working, going to school, doing activities etc. The bright side of this new shelter in place policy is that families have more time to spend together, to get to know each other, and to bond. I know that seems trivial to some, but many families just aren’t as connected as they used to be decades ago. I think we can give a huge thanks to technology for that one. Anyway, before I ramble to long, which I tend to do, now is the perfect time to play some games together as a family to pass the time, and have a little bit of fun. Now there are a ton of games on the market, and I’m sure that many of them are really great. However, I’m sharing a list of my personal favorite fun family games at home that we like to play.

These games are not only fun and entertaining, but they’re easy to find at big box stores, and if you’re in a state that has a full shelter in place policy going on, then you can order them from Amazon.

Sorry – This is hands down my family’s favorite game, and we we go up north snowmobiling, it always gets packed so that we can play in our little motel room. This game is fun, competitive, and each round tends to end quickly enough that no one will get bored. In fact, we usually play at least 3 rounds!

Uno – This classic card game has been around since I was a kid, and I have fond memories of playing it with my parents. This is a great game to help kids with colors, numbers and matching too.

PayDay – PayDay was always one of my favorites, and when my siblings were young and I used to do my laundry at my parents house, we’d always play a few rounds while I waited for my laundry.

Phase 10 – This card game is similar to “rummy”, and is a fun one to pass the time. My husband and I would play for hours on end during my pregnancy with our first son.

Skip Bo – This fun card game takes me back to my teen years, and I spent a lot of time playing with my friends and their mom. This is a great family game to play.

Game Of Life – Another classic from my childhood, my cousins and I would play this all the time when I lived at my Grandma’s house in Indiana. It’s still a favorite of mine.

Mancala – This one is only a two player game, but is a lot of fun. My cousins and I used to play this often too, and I have a Mancala board that we still play to this day.

Monopoly – One of my favorite games of all time is Monopoly. This game takes awhile to play, but hey, we’ve got time on our hands right now! The cool thing is that they have released many different versions of Monopoly like Frozen, The Simpsons, Fortnite, Scooby Doo and many more.

Jenga – This game can get intense, and you don’t want to be the one to have the tower fall on you. This game is perfect for family game days.

Clue – Though I haven’t played this game in at least a decade or two, it was a favorite of mine growing up. In fact, I need to order one now!
