I received The Digger and the Flower for this review/feature. Opinions expressed are my own.
The Digger and the Flower by Joseph Kuefler is a picture book with a powerful message about the environment, perfect for little ones ages 4 to 8 as they learn about the beauty in the world around us.
Each day, the big trucks go to work. They scoop and hoist and push.
But when Digger discovers something growing in the rubble, he sets in motion a series of events that will change him, and the city, forever.

Joseph Keufler is the author-illustrator of Beyond the Pond and Rulers of the Playground. He lives in Minnesota with his wife and children.
What I like about this book is that it is not entirely predictable as *spoiler alert* the original flower does not survive the trucks but there is a happy ending. This book is especially great for boys since it has construction equipment as the characters but it blends in perfectly with the story of a flower and the beauty in nature. I plan on reading this to my daughter’s first grade this Fall since it is already a favorite in our house so I know it will be a big hit!
