Over the years, I have found a deep love for travel. The kids are almost grown and not much is holding my husband and I back from doing the things that we want to do. Exploring the world literally tops that list for me. I’m talking road trips near and far, trips to other countries and even sailing across the ocean. According to Alamo Rent A Car’s recent survey, wanderlust affects both families and millenials. Today, I’ll show you how that can really be a good thing!
Many of us need getaways to relax, unwind and just take a step back from the daily grind of life. Traveling alone can be wonderful and relaxing, while traveling with family or friends can be a great way to spend time together and connect in ways that you never have before. Traveling also gives us the opportunity to explore new things, learn about new places, traditions and cultures, and sometimes even learn something new about ourselves, or the people closest to us.
But surprising statistics show that fewer people are actually taking the time to focus on their vacation, and instead are remaining “plugged in” the entire time. And here I thought that was just me, you know the life of a blogger who travels and loves to share every step of the journey with her audience. It’s nice to know that I am not alone, but in the same breath, people really need to get out there and actually enjoy the journey!
A shocking 37 percent of Americans report that they completely unplug from work during their vacation, as found in the 2018 Alamo Family Vacation Survey. That’s a huge drop from 53 percent who reported unplugging last year! Over half of the people surveyed said they actually work during their vacation to avoid coming back to even more work. It’s the sad truth of this rush rush world that we live in!
