We have all seen the wave of awesome adult activity books and with it has come new activity books for kids….ones way better than those of the past! Here are some new ones from Barron’s that are especially fun for kids.

Help your little readers practice their visual thinking, pen control, and hand-eye coordination with these simple dot-to-dot puzzles. In My First Dot-to-Dot, young kids will enjoy tracing over dots, connecting them, and revealing a colorful picture with these fantastic throw-downs that will have them answering questions, writing words, counting items, and solving problems. Get them thinking, writing, counting, and laughing as they take on each intriguing challenge. It offers hours of age-appropriate fun to kids that are just starting to enjoy thinking through problems and find answers all by themselves. (Ages 3?6)

I have always enjoyed doing dot-to-dot puzzles and these are PERFECT for preschoolers! Lil Sis at 5 adores this book. It works on the numbers she knows while making super fun designs she likes. I find it oddly satisfying connecting dots and kids seem to really enjoy it too! At 64 pages these book has many to complete and this would make an excellent book for travel as well.

Help your little readers practice their visual thinking, pen control, and hand-eye coordination with these simple mazes. In My First Mazes, young kids will enjoy completing mazes and solving questions like, ?What did the pirate find??, ?Where did the king go??, ?How many friends did the frog find??, and more. Get them thinking, writing, counting, and laughing as they take on each intriguing challenge. It offers hours of age-appropriate fun to kids that are just starting to enjoy thinking through problems and find answers all by themselves. (Ages 3?6)

The mazes are just as fun as connecting the dots. The book is colorful, fun and each one is different so it is never boring. Another great book for preschoolers! Lil Sis especially loves working in this book while we are at a restaurant waiting for dinner to be served.

Your most exciting creative challenges start HERE! There’s no doubt about it: coloring is a great way to spur on creativity, while mazes make your brain work harder and better. But what if kids think coloring books are for babies?or mazes are just plain boring? Tell them to think again, because Spot the Difference, from the hallengingBooks series, gets the puzzle challenges started right here! There are up to 100 differences to spot?if you?re up to it! Every puzzle starts easy and gets harder, with time challenges to see if kids can beat the best of the rest. Spot those differences and beat the clock?then go ahead and color in some of these wacky, wonderful puzzles. Challenging? Books are perfect for kids who like to kick things up a notch. The only question is?are they up to the test? Encourage them to say yes, and they?ll enjoy hours of stimulating fun! Includes perforated pages. (Ages 8 and up)

Big Sis absolutely LOVES this book. She thinks it is way better than “little kid books” since it is more for her level at 8+. They aren’t always easy and being timed is what really makes this book a fun challenge. Even adults will enjoy this one!

Put the world is in your child’s hands with this book that lets them color in and build their own amazing three-dimensional playset. Your child will spend hours coloring, creating, and playing with Ballerina Theater. Kids can build scenes from favorite ballets, including Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. They can create a scene from each ballet?or create their own! All it takes is some colored pens or pencils and a healthy imagination! Children can color in and stack these die-cut card sheets and then mix and match them to create different colorscapes. Die-cut holes in the middle of the cards help create a stunning layered effect when the cards are stacked one behind another in the base. Twenty-four double-sided, press-out card sheets allow kids to put together many different card combinations to create their very own scenes. (Ages 8 and up)

This book is actually fun for my girls to do together. Big Sis tears them apart and sets them up as it requires a little more skill than a preschooler has. Then they color them together as well as put on little puppet plays together. It is actually super cute!
These books are all fun and not at all like your typical activity books. They are each unique and offer up hours of fun for my girls. I much prefer these when traveling or in a waiting room over always depending on electronic devices. These are each found at a great price and could even be used as gifts!
