The past few years have been hard on my family since we lost my father to lung cancer. Especially with Father’s Day upon us. I wanted to find a way to celebrate his life, and give it to my mother on Father’s Day. She came over a couple of weekends ago with her tulle ribbon wreath I made her for Mother’s Day a couple of years ago that her cats had demolished. So I started thinking of ways to honor my father. She brought the tulle she wanted me to use, and would have been perfect color for a Breast Cancer Awareness Wreath.? So I thought maybe I could make interchangeable hangers for the wreath. Since this is a sensitive issue I wanted her to be able to change out her designs in case it brought her more sadden by seeing it. I love summer, and I thought that a flip flop would be the most appropriate symbol. I plan to make a welcome hanger as well. Then it came to me . . . I wanted a Lung Cancer Ribbon with wings to’symbolize my father.? Heaven was given an awesome angel when he left us on earth.
Materials:
3/4″ plywood
Acrylic paint
Brushes
Wire
Clear Coat Finish
Sand paper
Drill bit to fit your wire
Drill
Step 1:
First draw out all your designs you plan to cut out for you interchangeable hangers for your wreath.
Step 2:
Cut out your designs using a scroll saw, but I used a jigsaw because that’s all I have. Then sand your finished pieces.
Step 3:
Drill your hole for your wire. If you plan to do my flip flop idea you will need to drill 3/4″ holes for your flip flop ribbon (if you plan to you 2 1/2″ wire ribbon).
Step 4:
The flip flop is a much easier design to paint.? As for the Lung Cancer Ribbon I wanted it to be more dimensional so I blended black with my white paint in areas to create shadow.?Onceyour designs are painted’seal?them with a clear varnish of your choice.
Now you are ready to celebrate many seasons by interchanging your hangers.? You don’t even?have to replace your wreath if you don’t choose to. I know that times are hard for some families, and this is a great way to be fashionable and frugal.
