STEM is all the talk in schools and with parents but add in the beauty of art and you have the up and coming STEAM. The Young Scientists Club leaps into summer with their Science-Art Fusion Series six themed kits. Science is a ton of fun and proving that with kids can be done with educational experiments that they get to do themselves.
For the past 17 years, The Young Scientists Club has put their focus on playful experiments for children as young as preschool. Their brand new Science-Art Fusion Series uses Bubbles, Crystals, Sculptures, Space, Explosions and Rainbows for boys and girls to be inspired to create, while learning basic scientific principles. Every themed kit boasts components for creating 10 different experiments. The customized art/science tray keeps all the experiment elements safe in one spot (and not on the kitchen table or floor!) Young Scientists are encouraged to take a photo as each experiment is completed (perhaps wearing a white lab coat?) and then tape the picture on the spot on the poster. When done, a bragging-rights-worthy poster is ready for hanging on a cherished wall.
Look for these STEAM themed kits in specialty stores and online.? All are for ages 5 and up and are $19.99:
- Bubbles – Make a lava lamp, form bubble foam, blow funnel bubbles, create bubble sculptures and even use bubble paint.
- Crystals – Activities such as making a crystal flower are interspersed with experiments to construct a crystal mobile, develop sun catcher crystals, create sponge crystals and so much more!
- Explosions – Little explosions in the house get mom’s approval because they are educational, after all! Young Scientists will get to create fizz tablet explosions, test tube explosions, volcanic eruptions, rainbow explosions and something called a milk color burst!
- Rainbows – Young Scientists can craft a rainbow bookmark, assemble a rainbow flower bouquet, create a rainbow chromatography snake or design a rainbow density test tube.
- Sculptures – Construct a DNA model, design a colored ice sculpture, shape a foil shadow sculpture or making an atom.
- Space -? Get ready to be intrigued with constructing a space rocket, drawing constellations, building a solar system and performing Earth chromatography.
What I absolutely LOVE about these kits is the fact so much is included….the only things you need are items you most likely have around the house already. Big Sis has a special love for space and had a unit about it recently in school so we dove into that kit first. She is 7.5 and finally able to read the instructions out loud all on her own. I am there strictly for parental supervision.
It would literally take you hours to complete just one kit so it is really worth it for each and every one. I am one of those moms that love being hands on and encouraging learning but I NEED these kits to help me guide her through it. The hard work is already done for you and all that is left is the fun. Here she is working with orbits and constellations.
Here are my girls working in the explosions kit. Make sure you have liquid food coloring on hand as almost all of them need it. These pictures are just a small taste of everything you can do with these kits.
Young Scientists, with their parents? permission, are encouraged to visit the Young Scientists Science-Fusion Art Gallery online and post their favorite moments in 2016 of making STEAM at home! These would be extra fabulous for those long summer days. These six new kits really do combine art & science into fun STEAM learning!
