DIY “Inspired by” Captain America Shoes
My two-year-old son loves Marvel Heroes!? His favorites are The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America.? He recently ran the rubber sole off his tennis shoes. Yes his entire sole fell off both his shoes.? I had a pair of my daughters slip-on shoes, but they were pink and black.? Not exactly boy colors.?? That’s when I?decided to create my DIY Inspired by Captain America Shoes.??By honoring?Captain America I would paint his’shieldonmy son’s’shoes.? My son talks non-stop about Captain America’s shield.? We have all his movies recorded on our DVR, and we watch one every night before bed.? As soon as I had the design drawn in pencil my son knew exactly what I was drawing.? He wears his new shoes everywhere and shows everyone!? The’slip-on shoes?give him?his independence because he can put them on? himself.? I recently began painting another pair an he had to wear them before I even had a chance to finish painting them.
Materials:
Fabric paint
Paintbrushes
Draw your design before you begin painting.? You may choose to paint in any order that you want.? I painted the metallic color first, then red and?blue last.? ?In this order you have a darker color than then first to cover up any imperfect lines as you paint your design.? Just make sure you have a variety of paint brushes so that you can paint the tiny areas where the seems of the shoes are.? I prefer to paint on canvas, but I have had students paint on vinyl and leather as well.? Before I resigned from teaching this was a huge fad for the kids and everyone loved the project.? TOMS still hosts an annual contest.? This style of painting is also referred to as Custom Kicks.
