I enjoy watching college football and every Saturday during the season I put my girls in the good old orange and blue so they look adorable while supporting our team. At 7 and 4 my girls don’t understand much of the game and they quickly get bored and stop watching. I think it is because they don’t know what is going on in the game. Of course I have tried to explain to them about the game but they still look completely bewildered while watching. I am excited to share with you that Sports Illustrated Kids kicks off the football season with a brand-new, fully illustrated nonfiction series designed for young kids to learn the rules, plays, and basics about popular sports…including football!
In the first Rookie Book, My First Book of Football, an illustrated rookie player character introduces the next generation of fans to the world of football and guides them through a visual retelling of an actual NFL game–from the coin toss to the winning touchdown. Even though it is NFL and not my beloved college football this book is still the perfect introduction to young kids on the basic parts of the game.
It includes simple text with colorful backgrounds and action photography. It starts with the coin toss and field layout and goes through each quarter till the end of the game. It includes essential football terms throughout including punt, tackle, kickoff, end zone and more. Helps kids easily understand complex concepts and reinforce the message in a fun way on each page.
