Every child needs a friend and sometimes that friend is imaginary and that is totally okay. Imaginary Fred written by Eoin Colfer and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers is a picture book that reminds everyone about the importance of friendship no matter what form it takes.

Did you know that if the conditions are just right, and if you add a little electricity, or magic, or luck, that an imaginary friend might appear just when you need one? An imaginary friend like Fred.
Fred is the best imaginary friend you could ever hope for, but no matter how hard he tries, the same thing always happens: his friend finds a friend in the real world, and Fred fades away, bit by bit, waiting to be wished for again…
Then one day, a boy named Sam wishes for a friend, and Fred appears! For a while everything is perfect.
But what about the day when Sam finds a real friend?
Could it be that this time, something magical might happen…?
Imaginary Fred is a quirky, funny, utterly irresistible story from two of the finest picture book creators on the planet.

A little imaginary boy named Fred appears to kids that need him most when conditions are just right. The problem is that the child usually finds a “real” friend pretty soon and imaginary Fred fades away and into the sky until another little child needs him. Fred wishes he could find a forever friend and one day…just maybe…he has found the perfect friend with all the same likes that could be friends with him for all time. The problem is that boy has found a new friend….now he fears he will fade away like he has every time before. This book definitely has a cute twist and the illustrations go along amazingly well with the story. A great book for any child’s bookshelf.
