I’ve always wanted a study area for the kids – a place where they could sit by themselves and study without being interrupted. Well a couple of weeks ago?Lil Man had this brilliant idea to turn the area next to the family room fireplace into a study area. It was a perfect idea because in the 4 years that we’ve lived here, we’ve done nothing with that space because it’s off in a corner that you don’t really even see. Hubby and I got to work planning and together, we created an amazing space that the kids can do their homework in. The bonus is that it looks great and blends well with the rest of the family room.
We started with the desk that my handy husband built himself. I think he did an amazing job. What do you think?
After the desk was installed and I knew what I was working with, I shopped online at Kohls.com. I found the perfect piece of wall art, the Abstract Squares Metal Wall Decor, to fit perfectly in the small area. It matches nicely with the tree on the wall next to it, so it really helped to tie this space together.
Next, I needed a lamp and something to keep the pens and pencils handy.?Kohl’s has so many great lamps, but when I saw the Cherry Blossom LED Tree Decor, I just knew it was perfect for the space since we already have a tree on the wall and the rest of the room features a lot of nature, as well as natural stone and wood work. The Lipper Bamboo 3-Tier Desk Organizer is just perfect because it fits more than just pens and pencils. I stocked it with sticky notes, glue, paper clips, chalk and other supplies so the boys will have everything they need.
A basket is a must to hold paper and gather whatever else they may need. I immediately fell in love with the Small Rectangular Chalkboard Wood Basket. It fits notebooks perfectly and they can keep other resources in it as well.
After I chose the previous piece, the Mixed Company Wall Chalkboard seemed like a given and just completed the entire study space. The boys can use the board t take notes, leave notes for one another or whatever else they may need.
Overall, my family is extremely happy with our new study area. Each of the items we chose really brought it to life in its own way; not to mention it looks great with the rest of the room’s decor. Kohl’s has a really great selection in store and online, which I highly recommend checking out if you plan to create your own study space in your home!
