This post was written in partnership with Overstock.com and NBC. Though I have been compensated for my time, all opinions are of my own.
My family loves animals and we have a number of pets. In fact, our house feels quite like a zoo at times with our 3 dogs, a cat and a ferret. Let’s just say that there is never a dull moment around here! We adore our pets and love them as part of our family. Crazy as things may get, I wouldn’t change any of it!
But did you that not all pets are able to thrive in a loving home? Well the fact is that many aren’t part of a family and those outcasts end up in shelters or on the streets. It breaks my heart to know that these loving animals don’t have a home or a family to love, cuddle and play with them. I’m not the only one ho feels this way and that’s why Overstock.com and NBC partnered together for the Clear the Shelters campaign – #ClearTheShelters via social media. ?Together, they sponsored a national adoption campaign in 28 events across 20 different cities on August 15th. The event was a hug success and 18,000 pets got adopted. That’s 18,000 pets who found a new home and family to love them!
The technology and resources of Overstock.com has helped to find homes for over 40,000 pets. You can browse pets who need adopted, right in your area and once you find your perfect furry match, there are over 5,000 items to browse through and shop for your family’s newest addition. Their brand mantra is “We sell cool stuff, to then do cool stuff”?to make the world a better place and you can definitely see that with this campaign.
This Saturday, August 22, News Anchor and Co-Host of NBC News? TODAY Show, Natalie Morales will host a 30 minute adoption special that will recap last week’s events. The special will air on NBC Owned Stations plus more than 100 NBC affiliate stations. In addition, Telemundo stations will air a special with the host of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles? (KVEA) daily entertainment show, Acceso Total, Elva Saray.
Have you ever rescued or adopted a pet? How was your experience?
What a great campaign!! I’m such a huge animal lover and it warms my heart whenever someone adopts!
I love this post. I have never rescued or adopted a pet. We had one before, but it was a gift from a friend. I would love to adopt if we decide to have a pet again.
Animals are so near and dear to my heart. As a child we had a dog, we rescused her. She was laying in the middle of the road. We searched and searched for her owners, but couldn’t locate any. She was the best dog and we loved her so much. Love pet adoption!
What a sweet and amazing campaign. This is the first time I am reading about it so I will for sure be spreading the word to my friends. All of our pets have been from shelters and we wouldn’t own a pet any other way.
I am so glad that pets can find new homes it pains me to see them have to put down and it happens often here in Atlanta. I hope this spreads to other places soon so that all cities and states can find homes for them
I love shelters and how much good they do for pets to find homes. Our cat is a rescue of sorts she showed up at our house and never left! I had not heard of Clear Shelters before today!
Dog lover here. Thank heavens for shelters like this one that are no kill and help the animals find quality homes. My two Yorkies passed away after living for about 14 years. If I ever get more dogs, it will be a rescue dog.
I am a huge dog lover, I had lots of dogs growing up. The death of my last dog when I was 20 years old was so hard that I never got a dog since. Now that my daughter is getting older I am considering it and I much rather rescue a dog than buy one from a gross puppy mill (although I feel sorry for those puppies too)
What an AWESOME campaign. I have two adopted furry babies and love them both SO much. I definitely will be spreading the word about this and hoping we can “Clear the Shelters” entirely. 🙂
I have never adopted a pet. Actually I’ve never owned a pet. However, they are adorable to look at and this is a great way to get pets from shelters and into a loving home. Kudos to NBC and Overstock for this initiative.
That is really cool! I am so proud of overstock for supporting such a great campaign through its technology. This will probably have a greater effect than throwing money at the shelter. I can see how beneficial it is for adopters to be able to browse around and be matched with their perfect pet.
It warms my heart to see big companies help these poor animals. I am a firm believer in pet adoption. I have adopted several dogs over the years and they always bring so much happiness to our family.
