While getting sick is an inevitable part of life, waiting for a doctor’s visit doesn’t have to be. There have been times that I’ve had a simple medical problem that I wished I had a doctor on call for. I knew what the problem was, have had it before, and just hated the thought of having to drive all the way out to my doctor, wait forever to even see her, and then be told it was exactly what I thought and be handed a prescription. Now with the app Doctor On Demand, you can consult with a doctor for many common medical or psychological issues from the comfort of your home .
Doctor On Demand is a healthcare service that provides Video Visits with Board Certified Physicians, Psychologists, and Lactation Consultants via smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. Doctor On Demand delivers services through employers, health systems, health plans, and directly to consumers. Patients simply download the Doctor On Demand app or visit?www.doctorondemand.com, provide a list of their symptoms, and are instantly connected for a Video Visit.
With Doctor On Demand, you pay per visit and there are no other fees. A medical or pediatric visit is $40, a psychologist visit ranges from $50-95, and a lactation consultant visit ranges from $40-70. Considering I normally have to pay a $30 copay for a regular medical visit, not to mention the cost of gas, Doctor On Demand really is the most cost-effective way to receive excellent care right from your own home.
To begin, you set up an account, select whether the visit is for you or your child, and pick the pharmacy near you that you’d like your prescription sent to if necessary. After initial set up, you describe?what is going on. I listed out my symptoms and said what I thought was the problem since I have experienced this before.
Then you select how long you have been experiencing symptoms. This is so helpful because as soon as you start to feel your symptoms coming on, you can seek treatment through Doctor On Demand, no wait required.
You then go through a list of symptoms for each body system and select the ones that apply to you.
You will be asked to allow the app or website to have access to your camera and then they connect you to a doctor in your state. From start to finish, including set up and ending my visit, everything took maybe 15 minutes tops. I’ll admit I did feel a little nervous?while I was being connected to a doctor, but as soon as the video visit’started and he introduced himself, I felt at ease and as if I were really in the doctor’s office.
Doctor On Demand is an amazing service. I couldn’t believe how simple and quick it was to use. I had a video visit?with Dr. Hershfield and he was great. Although my diagnosis was a simple one, and something I’ve dealt with before, he was incredibly nice as well as thorough and didn’t make me feel rushed.
To say Doctor On Demand beats going to the doctor is a big understatement. The video visit?makes the visit to feel personalized because you can actually see the doctor and vice versa. It’s also great because if you’re having visible symptoms like a rash or redness, you can show it right there on the video.
I was able to connect with a physician and finish my visit in less time than it would take me to call, wait on hold, and make an appointment. Trying to schedule and get to see a doctor takes a lot out of the day – between the drive time, the usual 20 minute wait, then waiting again in the exam room to see the doctor, I can easily spend close to 2 hours. Not only that, but I often feel rushed when visiting my doctor because there are other rooms filled with patients waiting to be seen. My Doctor On Demand visit may have been my best visit with a doctor ever.
They treat a variety?of common problems. Some of the more common ones include?cold/flu, sore throat, UTIs, sports injuries, skin issues/rashes, diarrhea & vomiting, and eye conditions?. I think it’s absolutely amazing that not only do they offer medical services for adults and children, but that there are psychologists and lactation consultants available as well. I wish this had existed when I was breastfeeding my son because I could’ve really used this service.
Doctor On Demand provides a wonderful service in a time when access to health care can be difficult for many. While they don’t treat chronic or very serious conditions like cancer, as these require multiple doctor visits and additional medical testing, they treat a wide range of common illnesses quickly and efficiently through a video visit. I’m thrilled to see a service like this and plan to use this again for my family whenever needed.
