I received a sample of Going to the Park for this review/feature. Opinions expressed are my own.
Books occupy a special place in my heart and children’s books are where it all begins. Setting a great foundation for reading starts at home when they are still little. Going to the Park is the first title in the new Liv on Life book series and it is a collaboration between the mother-daughter team of Elizabeth Gorcey and her daughter Olivia (Age 8). This is an adorable book that both my girls enjoy.
This new Beverly Hills International Book Awards nominated children’s book features Olivia “Liv” and her best friend, Bowie, a Boxer dog. Liv loves playing with her dog and she loves all things pink. She wants to go out and play but the problem is her parents are always busy on their computers and their cell phones. She must find a way to remind them not to worry too much and to take time to enjoy the small things like going outside.
Author Elizabeth Gorcey has been creating her entire life with paint, film (starred in Footloose, Teen Wolf, Max Headroom), and words. Her new book series is inspired by her daughter, Olivia, who as a three-years-old began to spontaneously deliver wisdom and advice to anyone who was listening. Elizabeth dubbed her daughters musings as “Liv-Isms” and each book in the series is based on these everyday insights. Sometimes kids are the best teachers, and in encouraging her own daughter to embrace and use her authentic voice, Elizabeth realized how much adults can, and must, learn from the purity and honesty of a child’s perspective.
This book is not only beautifully illustrated it is a great reminder to myself that I should not forget to take time out of my day to play with my girls. They are only little for a short time and I don’t want to miss it. You can purchase this book on Amazon and the Liv on Life website includes many cute things like recipes, wallpapers and coloring pages. I can’t wait to see the next books in the series and to see what Liv-Isms appear!
