The Tree Story App Helps Plant Real Trees

Zig Zag Zoom, a company founded by former

Disney Interactive executives, launched

their first game called Tree Story on

April 22nd (Earth Day). Requires ISO 7.0 or later.

Compatible for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6,

and iPhone 6 Plus.

Tree Story is an adorable free educational mobile app that teaches your children how to raise a tree from a seedling. In this “virtual pet game for your smartphone players nurture tree seedlings with water, sun, food and love to grow them into fully grown trees. Once your virtual trees are grown they are sent into virtual forests and schools and then real world trees get planted! Zip Zag Zoom has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service, Project Learning Tree, ACTrees, and the Arbor Day Foundation to execute the planting of the trees. The first tree planting was on Earth Day at the Yu Ying Public Charter School in Washington DC.

Once you begin the app you must select a forest campaign to plant your tree I chose Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation in Seattle, Washington.

This park celebrates the life, music and legend of Seattle native Jimi Hendrix! The park will be enhanced with tree planting, a butterfly garden, improved walkways, and more!

I chose Jimi Hendrix Park because it has the least amount of participation than the other locations, and I want to ensure that everyone will benefit from this opportunity.

After you have chosen your location you then get to choose between an elm, pine or magnolia seed to be planted. Next, you get to name your seed! So far we have created Mag a magnolia, Lily a pine and Hailey an elm. They have all been planted in Jimi Hendrix Park. Once you have named your virtual pet tree you will feed and water them, play with them and dress them up with sunglasses, hats, shirts and more!

However, if you do not take care of your virtual tree it will begin to die. Thankfully we have not had any die, but we have seen the effects of what happens when your virtual pet tree is neglected. Here is a screen shot of poor Lily.

My favorite part of the game as a parent and teacher is that it is great learning tool for budgeting. Each time you have to feed your virtual pet tree the player must purchase their food and then feed their pet. The same goes for watering tools, clothing and toys.

This is an excellent app for all ages, and it even caters to adults. I enjoyed playing with our virtual pet trees and the extra games. The more you play the more games will unlock and so far we have had eleven games unlock, with even more coming soon. This is definitely an app that will all three of my children will continue to enjoy playing. Remember, once you are finished playing the Tree Story game a real tree will be planted in honor of your virtual pet.
