If there is one thing that hasn’t changed from my childhood to my daughters it is that school lunches are still gross. I pack a lunch for Big Sis almost every single day. Next week on March 10th is National Pack Your Lunch Day. Sure we do it anyway but it is still fun to do a little extra to celebrate. I plan on sneaking in some cute food designs into my daughter’s lunch and a special treat. We like “being green” when it comes to school lunches but it wasn’t until we received our PlanetBox container that I got to start packing a “bento lunch.” Their containers are part bento, part T.V. tray and basically all awesome.

They currently offer 3 different size containers where the one pictured here, the Rover, is the middle size. It has 5 compartments and this set includes 2 dippers. The smallest compartment is perfect for little treats. The dippers are for wet or messy food. I use the smallest dipper for salad dressing for my daughter to dip her veggies in. The Rover holds up to 4.5 cups of food which can be the right amount for both kids and adults. You can even buy utensils that have their own elastic section to hold them in place and you can purchase a cold sleeve so your food stays nice and cool. For moms like me who find washing dishes the WORST CHORE EVER you will be happy to know the stainless products are dishwasher safe.

Another great feature of
these PlanetBox containers is that you can change out the magnets on the
front of the container for added personalization that kids love. Big
Sis is really into unicorns and rainbows right now so this one was
beyond perfect and received praise from my daughter. They even have
custom magnet options! When her tastes change I can just buy a different magnet set to change it up without having to buy a whole new lunch container.

The beauty of the seperate containers is also portion control!!! I needed this back when I was working and pregnant with my 2nd. No endless bags of snacks but instead you pre-portion out everything in advance. Heck I stay home and I should start doing this!

You don’t have to be a fancy bento mom to still have fun and tasty lunches. These are a few of the simple ones that Big Sis and I made together. We actually have fun putting all the food in the little sections. I honestly never thought making a packed lunch could actually be fun but I clearly needed the right tools!

Sometimes I put a tiny piece of chocolate or a treat in the center container. The picture above shows some chocolate covered raisins in it.

Here is my average size 6 year old kindergartener to see the size of the Rover with her holding it. We normally stick a re-usable water bottle in the elastic pouch and her afternoon snack in the pocket. My daughter also likes using the longer strap that comes with it.

The smaller size one they sell is called the Shuttle and I will need to get it for Lily Sis when she starts preschool as it would be perfect for her snack since she will only be in school half days.

Although I have only had the lunchbox for a short while I can tell it is built to last. The materials feel sturdy and even the stitching on the bag feels strong. Nothing flimsy about these products! Yes they are pricey in relation to cheap lunchboxes but these are definitely meant to last longer than one school year. These are the nicest lunch boxes I have ever seen and in some weird way I now enjoy packing lunches with my daughter. Getting out the door in the mornings is smoother than ever. Now if I could only magically poof into a morning person then my mornings would be a breeze.
