Spring is my favorite time to bake. There are so many fun holidays to make tasty treats for and Easter gives me an excuse to get creative with what I make. My son (and more so my husband) are obsessed with Rice Krispie treats. They have both been asking me to make some recently so I figured why not have a little fun and make them festive for the spring and Easter. *This post contains affiliate links.

Here’s what you need to make it:
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter (half a stick)
– 5 cups rice cereal
– 10 oz marshmallows
– Yellow food coloring
– Orange icing
(I just got the pre-made kind that comes in a tube for decorating)
– 1 tsp. vanilla extract
(optional)
?
To make, melt the butter in a saucepan
. Once it’s completely melted add the marshmallows and stir, stir, stir. Once those are melted down, I like to add vanilla extract for a little more flavor, but it’s completely optional.

Add some drops of yellow food coloring to the marshmallow/butter mixture, then stir in the rice cereal. Let it cool for a bit and then start shaping it.

I tried to make them as chicken-shaped as possible, but to me they look more like little squashes. Either way, they don’t need to be perfect and even something really simple like a ball would work for this. Once they’re shaped and cooled, put a dot of orange icing for the beak and on the bottom for the feet. Stick in 2 chocolate chips for the eyes and your chicks are complete.
