My husband loves it when he gets to be my “guinea pig” for different foods and recipes that I try. Pereg Gourmet’s Quinoa Pops (pronounced keen-wa) was no exception. All four of their flavors; vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and original, were great!
I tried the original flavor which was only 60 calories per serving and tasted great. It was not bland and did not taste like cardboard, much to my relief. I added 1cup or 8 ounces of 1% milk, strawberries and a glass of orange juice for a healthy, well balanced breakfast. I cannot eat foods like oatmeal or cream of wheat. Not because they taste bad but because they are mushy and it’s very much a texture issue for me. I was very pleased to discover that this cereal held up very well in the milk while I took the pictures and was still nice and crunchy when I was done.
“Quinoa Pops are made by
popping whole grain quinoa under high pressure and a bit of heat (like
popcorn), the popped quinoa is then combined with natural flavorings
like pure cocoa powder, premium vanilla
and natural strawberry flavors to create a delightfully pure, simple
and yummy treat. Only 100 calories per serving, Quinoa Pops contain no
cholesterol, and are low in sodium and sugar. Available in original,
vanilla, strawberry and cocoa, Quinoa Pops are
also certified gluten-free, OU Kosher, and a perfect complement to
vegetarian and paleo diets.
Every bite offers a delicately sweet flavor, delicious airy texture, and playful crunch”
And I didn’t stop there . . .no sirree Bob! I wanted to do these wonderful cereals justice! On the back of each box is a great recipe for some very yummy desserts. I chose the strawberry and the chocolate desserts to share with you.
We absolutely loved both desserts and they were a lot of fun to make. I did alter the ingredients a little bit. I am not a fan of regular yogurt (texture thing again) so I got frozen yogurt instead. The desserts were more like sundaes and my husband and I truly loved them. We’re not even sure which one we liked best because they were both so good and had their own unique qualities. And again the Quinoa Pops cereals held up very well and gave us a great crunch until all the dessert was gone, yum!
I also took Quinoa Pops cereal with me to work for a treat day to go on top of strawberry low fat yogurt. I received very positive feedback. I even tried it because I wanted to check for crunch factor and it was pretty darn good and did stay nice and crunchy. I also found out that my boss’ 12 year old daughter loves these cereals and will be very excited to receive a few boxes from me.
Quinoa Pops cereals are great with lots of other things too; like raisins, nuts & berries and whatever else your imagination might come up with. These cereals are also great all by themselves if you just want a snack that is a little more healthy for you but still tastes great. You really should give them a try!
“Pereg-Gourmet is a
company of 3rd generation olive oil and spice manufacturers offering a
wide variety of spices and seasoning mixes that help make your food come
alive! Pereg Gourmet introduced quinoa (pronounced keen-wa), a grain
that comes from the Mountains of South America. Quinoa’s origins are
truly ancient. Quinoa was known then, and still is known, with respect,
as the mother grain. The company calls it the “Super grain of the
Future.”
