Halloween is just around the corner and I’m just so excited because it’s one of my favorite holidays. For one day, children get to dress up, pretend to be someone else and gather together collecting candy from neighbors in their community. It’s a fun time for all and I just love passing out candy and seeing all of the fun and creative costumes!
We live in a small lake community so there aren’t many children that come knocking at our door. In fact, we probably only see one set of kids every 15-30 minutes. Realistically, the kids don’t get as much candy as they could in other neighborhoods, so I like to make their trip worth the while. This year, I’ll be handing out treat bags full of candy and a coupon for a free Jr. Frosty from Wendy’s?!
“Visit your local Wendy’s? to purchase a Jr. Frosty? Halloween Coupon Book* for $1, which benefits the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption?!
*Coupon book may contain coupons for 5 or 10 free Jr. Frosty? treats. Prices and participation may vary. Ninety cents to every $1 coupon booklet sold between 9/15/14 and 10/31/14 will benefit the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption?. Coupons valid from 11/1/14 through 2/1/15. ?2014 Oldemark LLC”
This hits very close to home and there’s a reason why I want to support this great cause. It’s something that I don’t talk about often and I’m pretty sure that I’ve never mentioned anything publicly, but I have 4 siblings that were adopted by other families. The first were a set of twin girls born about two years before my oldest son was born. Another baby boy was born about a year after my first son and lastly, another boy who is younger than my youngest son. So my oldest son has two uncles that he will never know who are younger than him, while my youngest son has one uncle younger than him. Imagine that!
I have found my peace with this and it is comforting to know that they are all in loving, happy homes. I firmly believe that they are much better off with their new families and they were each a wonderful gift to people who couldn’t have children of their own.
But it is not always the case that children are adopted right from birth, into wonderful families. Some children are taken away from abusive or neglectful parents and then placed into foster care. But what so many people don’t realize is that many of these children actually get lost in the system, some never finding a “forever home”. It saddens me because no child should ever have to go without the love and support of a a family. There are currently over 100,000 children in foster care waiting for adoption. That is such a sad statistic!
But that’s why I’m so supportive of programs like the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption?. Because of this wonderful foundation, over 4,000 children have found adoptive families! That may seem small in scale, but that’s still 4,000 children who got out of the system and found a forever home. That in itself is simply amazing and wonderful!
Wendy’s? has been a supporter of foster care adoption for 22 years and aims to give $10 million to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption? this year alone. It’s companies like Wendy’s? and the purchases that we can make through them that make a world of difference and it just warms my heart!
