continues stronger than ever! The whole family looks forward to game
night every week. We can all be pretty competitive. I own a few Calliope Games
and I love every one of them as they really match up with my style of
game play. If I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Roll for it!
the fast moving dice game.
In Roll For It!, players take turns rolling dice and matching the results to Roll For It! cards, which are worth points ranging from 2 to 15. The first player to score 40 points? worth of cards wins.
The steps are simple:
- Roll for it!
- Match it!
- Score it!
Of course the difficult part is that other players may steal the cards you?re shooting for as you all play off the same cards. The Calliope Games website actually has a great video explaining how to play.
Each player take turns rolling their dice. The number of dice available for you to roll will change during the game, so you?ll want to take great care in managing them as play progresses. Match the results of your roll with the dice images shown on the face-up Roll For It! cards, ignoring results that don?t match any images. You can spread your dice out among the cards, but each die can be matched to only a single image on any one card. Place a die next to a matched card, not on it. Because all players are going after the same cards, multiple dice colors can be matched with a single card. Once a die is placed, it cannot be moved to another card. You may choose not to place a matching die or dice during your turn.
You score a Roll For It! card as soon as you?ve matched all of its die images with dice of your own color; you cannot use other players? dice to score a card. A card is worth points equal to the number printed at the bottom. Place the scored card in front of you, creating a staggered score pile with points visible to all players. All dice on a scored card are returned to their owners and can be used on the owner’s next turn. Immediately flip a new card from the deck to replace the scored card. If you still have rolled dice available to match from this turn, you may match them with any of the face-up Roll For It! cards, including the one you just flipped. After you have rolled, matched, and scored qualified cards, your turn ends and play passes to the person on your left.
With just two people playing we normally finished a game in 10-15 minutes but when adding in more players it would take 20+ minutes a game. In the pictures you can see the point
value for each card in the circle. The more dice you have to match up
the higher the point value of the card. I absolutely love the artwork on all the cards too!
I am not normally the type of person to
re-buy a game for it’s fancier deluxe edition but if you are to only
buy one version of Roll for it! then you should definitely pick up the
deluxe version. It includes enough dice and cards so that up to 8 people
can play at once and the whole set is just really really nice and the tin even has the goddess Calliope on the front.
This edition will not be available in stores until November but that is perfect timing for holiday shopping. Buying gifts for adult friends and family members can be hard sometimes but this game is one that is perfect for any person that love to play games. It is also compact all packed up inside the tin so it doesn’t take up too much space and can be easily stored and is great for travel. I can’t wait to get a big group of friends together to play. A little competition can be a really fun thing!
