There’s just something about summer and peaches that goes hand-in-hand. We’re huge peach fans in our house, we even make sure to get to the local Farmer’s Market on Peach Day for all the samples, the ripest peaches, and a chance to see the Peach Princess. It’s very much a Southern thing, I guess. Unfortunately, peaches are not available year long and sometimes, not everyone has access to fresh ones.
The Fruit Company is the leading online retailer of high quality orchard fruit baskets, along with gourmet gifts. We received a box of six peaches, hand picked and packed into the stunning watercolor gift box pictured above. The box is so darling, it makes a great gift to someone special without any extra pomp and circumstance. Just classically elegant.
Our Oregon Peaches arrived individual wrapped in protective mesh sleeves. They were nestled inside of green tissue paper as well. We have rough and tough mail carriers around here, so I wasn’t surprised that two of the peaches were bruised. The Fruit Company protected these peaches the best they could, but they’re no match for the mailman. (They’ve managed to break a picture frame twice, even though it was bubbled wrapped and inside of two boxes, so I know where the fault lies)
Look how gorgeous these peaches are though. They are definitely hand fruit, trumping anything local by almost thrice its size! The skins were a beautiful blush pink, with just the right amount of green before ripening. After one bite, we knew we couldn’t bring ourselves to make anything with them, they were too sweet, too juicy, and aromatic, it seemed like a crime to add them to a recipe. Just our personal preference, but wow. We can get fresh picked peaches from this morning around here, but, I still find myself wishing I could be in Oregon and enjoying their peaches! The four year old was the biggest fan. He would grab one, sit down, peel off the skin, then dive in! I’ve never quite seen a peach make anyone so sticky, but it’s worth it! Twenty minutes later, he had eaten it down to the pit and asked for another, declaring it was the sweetest “candy-est tasting” peach ever!
I wish we had another box (or two) of these delicious peaches. If you don’t get local peaches in your area, this is definitely the next best thing! And I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other varieties of premium fruit they have to offer. I miss the apple orchards from our stay in New York and the granny smith look absolutely delicious on the site! Just about any fruit you could wish or want for is available, when in season. And don’t forget to check out the plethora of gifts they have available as well!
