~I received a KLOO Language Game for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
One of the most successful ways to teach children new concepts is through play. As an avid supporter of early education and the parent of an ASD child, finding unique teaching methods for our home is one of my #1 priorities! That’s why when I was introduced to KLOO Language Games I fell in love. This multi-award winning language system is actually a board game designed to help children (and adults) learn to speak different languages naturally.
KLOO uses proven Discovery Learning Principals that helps to learn over 200% faster than more traditional methods. You learn while you play and earn points for each card (or word) in your sentence.
I have a gamer teen so anything where he can score points and win is right up his alley. I had chosen the Spanish game due to my heritage. My mother’s side of the family comes from Mexico, but her Grandfather wouldn’t let anyone speak Spanish; so of course it was the one thing everyone wanted to do! I felt it would be a lot of fun to share this with my teen before school started. We’d set out the game board at night when it was just the two of us and have a lot of laughs trying to pronounce everything. Amazingly, we actually started to get it right and caught on really fast!
The great thing about KLOO is that one moment you are just having fun and the next you realize that you know a whole lot of words and you can actually use them in conversation. It isn’t repetitive, tiring or well… boring. It feels completely natural and the more you play the game, the more you learn!
KLOO currently has French, Spanish, Italian and ESL (English) board games. Along with the games there are also many resources available on KLOO for teachers and parents.
Introducing a game can have a dramatic affect on performance. Learners become more focused, try harder, compete and have more fun. They also find, often to their own surprise, that they learn faster ? without having to work, study or write. The human interaction aspect of the game ? and the fact it is away from screens ? is especially enjoyed by the students. One of the things that teachers tell us they really like about KLOO, is that it is an auto-answering game ? i.e. the game answers the questions it poses. This means they can manage their own games leaving the teacher free to supervise the whole class. Indeed, games are used by teachers in many ways including grammar demonstrations; end of class fun; whole lessons, language clubs and even set as homework.
Whether you are a parent wanting to help your child learn another language or a home/public school teacher, these would be such a wonderful tool for your home and classroom. I absolutely love this game and honestly recommend it to anyone who has a desire to learn another language.
