~I received a copy of Joanie Leeds and the Nightlights album Good Egg for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
It is musicians like Joanie Leeds that show the world how incredible children’s music can be. She could have easily kept at singing late nights in bars/clubs and made it into the indie music scene, but fortunately for many parents she had fell in love with singing for children. Now we get to experience her award winning talents again and again! With her new album, Good Egg, Joanie Leeds is at the top of her game; sharing her versitle talents alongside her band The Nightlights and joined by Jacob Stein (of the GRAMMY? nominated The Pop Ups) and children’s musician extraordinaire Mista Cookie Jar!
Good Egg has 15 tracks that skip their way through multiple music genres. All the songs are ‘story’ style songs with witty and clever lyrics that hold the interest of both the younger and older kids. You can easily see how she’s been a finalist in multiple songwriting competitions.

My personal favorite is Food Fight, a powerful driving beat that pulls you into the album by wanting to jump around and dance with your kids. Trust me Moms and Dads, you can NOT hold yourself back from getting into this beat! You can take a listen on Joanie Leeds song page!
My Dad is a sweet little diddy backed up by a ukulele and whistle that has a light jazzy feel to it; although it reminds me of a mix of 50s oldies.
Germs is definitely an ode to classic punk (think The Clash meets the Ramones) and is completely awesome in that the lyrics teach about illness protection! I am definitely on board with this!
Ending the album is a beautiful lullaby called I love You that brings you to all the beautiful places in your heart. A wonderful soothing melody that winds down the excitement and gives you a moment to just hold on to your child and love them. Try not to get too teary eyed!
An outstanding album, Good Egg is what great summer music is all about. You can learn more about Joanie Leeds and her amazing band The Nightlights by visiting their website. I wholeheartedly suggest that if you have the opportunity to go see her live with your family, GO! Don’t miss out on a chance to see a great band and have fun with your kids!
