Crunchy, slightly sweet, a bit salty, and oh so chewy. These were the textures and flavors I was looking for when the idea of a pretzel roll popped into my head. I know it’s not a new idea, but, I’ve never had them before. Crazy, right? But the husband had the car and what was a girl to do but make up a batch from scratch?
So I made some pretty dough. All with my little hands. No mixer used. It’s soothing to the soul to mix and knead by hand. In my book anyways. Then, I let the kid using a big rolling pin and he rolled out the dough for me. I then used my dough cutter to cut out 12 even rolls, let them rise. Before I took them on a little dip.
It’s like a hot tub for the dough. I was a bit jealous, but got my revenge!
Slice. Slice. One big ‘X’ across that bun! Then I slathered an egg wash and a generous amount of coarse salt on top. Then I popped these babies in the oven until golden brown.
If you make these, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below! I hope you enjoy!
