Honeywell Wi-Fi Enabled Thermostat Can Save You Money & Giveaway

Becoming a home-owner a few years ago has made me acutely aware of the amount of energy a little home can use. I make sure lights are off when people leave the room, the refrigerator is set at proper temperatures, only run full loads of dishes and laundry, and unplug all ‘vampire’ electronics. The one area of the house I often fight over is the thermostat. We had an older Honeywell digital thermostat, our home is only a decade old, and although I set a schedule, I still found the heat or air conditioning kicking on at off times thanks to my husbands sly fingers. Last summer, I would have to get up in the middle of the night to turn the air off after he turned it down before going to bed. It drove me nuts! I knew we were wasting energy and in turn, money.

Honeywell is probably one of the most recognizable names out there for thermostat brands, among the countless other endeavors they make. Although our original thermostat wasn’t that old, it had it’s problems and I was very excited to try out a new, customizable touch screen and Wi-Fi enabled thermostat. The first thing I noticed was how sleek the design was, although larger than our previous, I knew it would help update the look in the hallway. I’m always looking for those little touches to add to our home for when we get ready to sell and, of course, enjoy while we still live here. Looking over the instruction book that comes with the thermostat and a video online, my husband banished me from the small hallway while he DIY installed the thermostat. With minimal grunts and in less than half an hour, the new Honeywell thermostat was installed and it was my turn to play!

Now, you don’t have to, but registering this Wi-Fi enabled thermostat is what it’s really all about. It took five minutes to set up an account and register the thermostat for remote access. Simple, easy, and free.

Once connected to the internet, I was floored by all the options and news that popped up on screen. My thermostat has the date and time on it and even tells me the outdoor temperature versus the inside temperature. My most favorite part? The ability to know the humidity. I despise humidity. A dry heat of 100 degrees can almost be bearable down south, but a wet, sticky humidity with 100 degrees is a nightmare. If I see the humidity starting to creep up, I can now counter-act it before it gets too bad!?

There are quite a few options with this Honeywell thermostat. With ours in the windowless hallway and directly across from the guest/kid’s bathroom, it can serve the purpose as a nightlight. It’s still very bright just on setting two, but in a room full of sunlight, I could see the need to turn it up so the screen is crisp.

?Another fun feature is the ability to customize the screen to match or compliment your wall or mood. So you can help it blend into the background or even stand out, whatever you think suits your home best. The thermostat is also has a seven day programmable feature. I’m home during the weekdays with my son, so I programmed the heat and air condition to suit our needs best. I work outside the house on the weekends, so our schedule is set for those times where the air is not needed, so we don’t waste any energy. And you’ll probably laugh at me, I had no idea we could just have a fan on circulate the air in the house without the HVAC on itself! Silly, but, it’s been one of my favorite things to use during this odd trend of temperatures.

We have a furry, four-legged child as well. Sometimes in the summer, it gets a lot hotter out than I think it may and I get worried he’s at home uncomfortable. With the download of a free app to my phone, I can now see and control my thermostat from, well, anywhere! If the temperature starts to creep past 90 this summer, I can quickly turn the air conditioning on with a simple poke of my finger, even if we’re out at the park. It gives me peace of mind that my dog can then be happily cooled down in front of his favorite vent, even when I’m not there. On the flip side, if we go out to eat or wherever and a chill has hit the air, I can turn the heat up on route home so we can be toasty warm the moment we walk inside, without having wasted heat while nobody was home! Other features include a locking touch screen, automatic alert, and a smart response temperature timing. With a new thermostat in your home, you can easily keep tabs on the energy you’re using and have peace of mind that it’s working for you, saving you some stress and money in your pocket!
