Research shows that kids should be in the most minimalist footwear possible until their feet are fully developed (usually 17 years for girls 21 for boys). And Vibram FiveFingers is the closest thing to going barefoot out there. Plus they’re fun and make a unique style statement.
For budding fashionistas, the Kids Alitza is a stylish option. Criss- cross flexible straps offer a secure and fashionable fit. Available in kids sizing 29-36 in purple/red and black.
For my 5 year old she wears an 11 in a normal size but Vibram sells theirs based on European sizing. These here are size 29 and literally fit her perfect. She took to these instantly. She told me that she likes that she can grip with her toes while climbing and playing better than with regular shoes. I am currently working with her to teach her to be a runner and she can run in these for one mile without stopping. She said they are “awesome runner shoes.” I like that this style seems so thin and flexible for her and is machine washable.
Their selection of shoes for adults is huge. You can pick the shoe that best fits the activities you want to wear them for.
The Vibram FiveFingers Bikila EVO is a road runner offering the benefits of going barefoot with slightly more cushioning. The toe shoe features zero drop construction with an 8.5 m.m. sole to aid in transitioning from a traditional running shoe. Rubber pods designed with MegaGrip, a compound developed for slippery and varied surfaces, offer grip and durability. An EVA midsole reduces weight and a polyester mesh upper offers snug breathability. X-Static fabric adds a high tech finish to the interior of the shoe, providing anti-microbial and breathability features. Available in black/yellow, yellow/blue, blue/yellow and orange/black for men and black/yellow/magenta, yellow/pink, orange/purple, and blue/green for women. MSRP: $120.
I wear a size 11 for women normally (huge I know!) and these are a European size 42. I would say they may be a slight bit big on me but I think the next size down would be too small. I have just always had a foot that tends to run between sizes. I really enjoy running on the roads in my neighborhood. I like that this particular shoe gives me the padding that I like to make sure I have enough cushion for a run without giving me any pain. I have run several miles in these shoes over the last few weeks. I started just running a mile and gradually increasing my distance. I wanted to make sure that my feet got use to a thinner padding that I was traditionally use to. I have experienced zero blisters and I have to admit that it really does feel like I am running barefoot!
These are both overall AMAZING outdoor shoes. I can’t imagine an activity these wouldn’t be good for. Sure it may feel a little different the first few times I wore them but it didn’t take long for these to become my go-to shoes when going anywhere outside wear flip-flops just won’t cut it. Vibram footwear is minimalist footwear at its finest. It just doesn’t get any more comfy that these!
