There are so many apps out there that I often don’t download anything at all because I feel overwhelmed by the choices. One app that I think is worth the download is the fun and educational app, iStopMotion for iPad. It is a movie-making app that will turn your children into rising star animators and filmmakers. First you need to come up with a really fun idea, which honestly is the hardest part, then you get out your iPad and make it. Make sure you iPad is in a holder to keep it still. Get into position, make sure you are in the iStopMotion App and snap a picture. Move your item a little bit then snap another. Over time you get a really cool video clip. Or I love that idea of setting up a time lapse video. With this app just set up your equipment and the app does all the work. The app allows for it to automatically take a picture at a time interval. You just gotta come up with a fun scenario that would be fun to watch on time lapse, like a room filling up with people or like their picture example below.

My skill level on making movies is at complete beginner. I literally downloaded the app a week ago and played with it for a little bit but I was still able to make a video right away. When I was done I was able to download it directly to my YouTube channel. Here is my fun video in all its Duplo glory.
For my very first video ever I think it turned out super cute! Really all you need is patience because the app itself is super easy to use. I do not consider myself to be a technology expert and I still found it a ton of fun! My 5 year old was the director telling me what I was constantly doing wrong. I did not let her press the button for each frame only because I knew she would have moved the iPad in its holder thus messing it up. I did not set up my iPhone as a remote camera but that is the option that I would do next time. Download the free companion app for your iPhone and then place it for the pictures. For kids that are even older than my child they could literally do this all by themselves.
I already have some cute ideas for future videos and maybe even some including my kids. Check out their Theater section on their website and see some of the clips that some users have submitted. I love one that involved filming a roadtrip so it is a stop motion movie driving down the road. Some of the clips are AMAZING and just watching their movies gets my creative juices flowing and I know it will for your kids too. The iSTopMotion App for the iPad is a way to use technology but still have your kids using their imagination. It does not get any better than that in an app!
