Just in time for Halloween, the new Room On The Broom Games app from Magic Light Pictures flies into the app stores! The new app is based on Penguin Group’s #1 best-selling Room on the Broom children’s picture book written by much-loved author Julia Donaldson, UK Children’s Laureate (2011-2013), and illustrator Axel Scheffler?the same author and illustrator team that created the critically-acclaimed book series, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.
If you have not read Room on the Broom than you are truly missing out on the perfect Halloween book for kids. As a librarian and a mom I could read it multiple times a day because I think it is so cute. I really do mean it, you should head to the book store, library or online store and pick up a copy because it is too cute to miss!
Check out the adorable witch plush to go along with the book. It even has a wart on its nose exactly like the one from the book! You can also purchase the dragon and cat from Barnes and Noble as well.
Here is a quick picture from the inside of my board book copy. The illustrations are gorgeous and go so well with the cute story of the witch on the broom that makes room for the animals that happen to come along and help her out.
There’s room on the broom for everyone in this high quality game app for 3?7-year-olds, featuring beautiful design based on Alex Scheffler’s original illustrations. Offering children a safe, entertaining and interactive experience they can enjoy time and time again, Room on the Broom Games provides eight imaginative activities that players can interact and explore within, while practicing early learning skills such as counting, creativity and literacy. Collectively, the games explore the world of Room on the Broom, complementing the experience of reading the book and watching the film. Key characters are featured and players get to help them fly, eat and explore their world. Designed to ensure players and parents feel comfortable and safe in the digital space, there are no in-app purchases.
I am a huge fan of apps for my preschooler that she can play on her iTouch in the car. It keeps her entertained while I move from point A to point B. This app is especially adorable and the music playing in the background is really soothing and enjoyable! She had no problem navigating the different games all on her own and she told me it was “her new favorite app.”

I have not seen it myself but there is a Room on the Broom DVD from NCircle Entertainment, available at Barnes & Noble, Target and Walmart, ToysRUs, amazon.com, Kmart listed at $9.99. It is Named ?Best Animated Short? by the Toronto International Film Festival Kid’s Festival and the CGI animation brings the book’s drawings to life under the direction of Max Lang & Jan Lachauer. Gillian Anderson (The X Files) provides the voice of the witch and Timothy Spall (Harry Potter Films) is the voice of the dragon. Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) narrates the story, which also features the recognizable voices of Martin Clunes, Rob Brydon, Sally Hawkins and David Walliams portraying the helpful animals that comprise the witch’s family. My girls and I will definitely be watching it when it is on Sprout later in the month!
Watch out for a special Halloween broadcast of this multiple award-winning animated movie in its first U.S. broadcast slots on 24-hour preschool network Sprout, airing on Oct 30, 31, Nov 29 and Dec 7.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year and I love all the activities I can play with my kids that go along with Room on the Broom. Of course it is a story about a witch that is great to read all year long but there is just something that makes it more magical this time of year. The app is perfect to help get you (yes I did play it multiple times with my kids nowhere around me) and your kids into the spirit of Halloween!
