Immunizations are an important part of life. They prevent against serious diseases and you never really outgrow the need for them. The type of immunizations just differ as you get older. For instance, a tetanus vaccine is important and one of the first things the doctor will ask you about if you go in with a sever cut. The shingles vaccine is another important one because the virus is already living inside you if you’ve ever had the Chicken Pox. My aunt recently dealt with the shingles and trust me, it wasn’t pretty!
You will also need to be up to date on all of your immunizations if you want to travel out of the country. We plan to travel to Australia one day in the not to far future and wouldn’t be able to do so if we weren’t up to date on our immunizations, including specific travel immunizations.
I’m sure that some of you are like me and dread an expensive and long visit to your doctor’s office. Well I’ve got good news for you, because Walgreens now offers Adult immunizations that are far more convenient than a trip to the doctor. The best part is that you don’t even need an appointment! That’s a great convenience for those of us with busy lifestyles.
I know that many of you like to help people just as much as I do, so you might be interested to learn that you can help provide a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country when you get your immunizations at Walgreens. Walgreens has partnered with the United Nations Foundation’s Shot at Life campaign. When you go to Walgreens to get your flu shot or other immunization between now and October 14th, a life saving vaccine will be supplied to a child in a developing country.
‘Get A Vaccine. Give A Vaccine’ is the message behind this campaign and I think it’s such a great cause! Up to three million vaccines for life threatening diseases like measles and polio will be provided through this partnership. I’m giving a child a shot at being healthy, like described in the photo of me below. It really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
As I mentioned above, getting adult immunizations is really easy at Walgreens. They do it all right in the back by the Pharmacy counter. There’s no need to make an appointment and if you’re lucky enough to live near a not so crowded Walgreens like I do, there may not be much of a wait time at all!
I know what you’re probably thinking – that you’d like to get your immunizations in a private area. I totally get that and I think Walgreens does too because they have a private little area set up just for that purpose! They’ve got a divider screen set up in the pharmacy waiting area and all of the fun {or not so fun} stuff goes on behind the screen.
So set all of your fears and excuses aside and head over to Walgreens for your flu shot and immunizations. It just might save the life of a child and almost nothing is more worthwhile than that!
You can learn more about the Shot at Life campaign right on the Walgreens website. They walk you through how to get involved and also talk about how this partnership helps. There are other online tools that are helpful too such as a vaccine consent form that you can print and fill out before your visit, a service that tracks your vaccines and age specific vaccine recommendations for the next 5 years.
