This is exactly what we plan to do on Wednesday with a few of Sonshine’s friends. I’ve been watching the weather channel the same way I did the week before my wedding and unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to be rained out the day of the Camping Party. But, that’s okay, I have a great idea and plan on bringing the outdoors to the munchkins while keeping them dry (and cool) inside! Armed with a shopping list and a few ideas, I headed out to our local Wal-Mart to get supplies.
Our party is going to be filled with a lot of younger kids, between 6 months and up to 4, so I had to keep in mind what healthy goodies their little bellies would appreciate it. I opted for great tasting and good for you Tyson chicken, fruit (I promise, I know it’s missing from the picture), mini-pancakes for edible plates, and of course, the fixings for s’mores! What outdoor/camping party is complete without the ooey, gooey treat? I think M.K. would approve of the healthy snacks and treats we’ll be having!
Armed with construction paper, a few of Sonshine’s colored pencils, and even a leaf from an Epic toy he got a few months ago, I set about to make some Leafman hats for all kids attending the party! The characters in the movie are known for using nature to make their clothes, I aimed to make the green parts look like overlapping leaves and then one giant leaf on the front. I hope the party-goers like them as much as Sonshine does! (Isn’t his little warrior face adorable?) Just wait until you see the rest of our decorations and props for the kids, like stars and clouds inside and maybe even some flower wreaths for the kids or moms to wear!
I also was lucky enough to also score some of the activity sheets we’ll be using during the party just for you guys! They’re below, just click on each picture to enlarge it, then right-click and print them on some recycled paper or better yet, reuse the back of an old piece of paper! The Backyard Campout, Nature Hunt, and Insect Experiment are all great ways to get your kids in touch with nature and a wonderful way to kick off a discussion on being green and responsible towards the Earth!
