McQuinn–or “Miss Kellee”
as youngsters know her–has been a pioneer in music and movement for
children to maintain a healthy childhood. Her company, KidTribe, prides
itself on delivering ?edgy-cation? to today’s youth in a time when
digital toys and stranger danger keeps kids off the front lawns or
running around the neighborhood. Her website, www.kidtribe.com, offers
cool fitness instruction videos that are more akin to Party Rock Anthem
than ?feel the burn? along with tot-friendly tips like choosing a sweet
red apple over sweet red licorice with whimsical characters. Now she’s
packed that contagious enthusiasm and know-how into a music video-driven
exercise kit starring a sturdy 38″ patented designed Pro Hoop.
Kit includes an
easy-to-assemble, indestructible full sized Pro-Hoop that’s designed to
be a bit thicker, heavier, and a lot sturdier than typical hoops you may
have seen. Built for success, this bigger diameter surprisingly makes
tricks easier to accomplish and allows kids to hoop for longer periods
of time. It also includes two Parents? Choice Foundation Award-winning
DVDs featuring instructional music videos that teach tricks, lead
dynamic routines and entertain with nutrition and other tips. The kit is
packed with 12 instructional games. Also included is a HOOPERSIZE CD
with seven heart-pumping tunes.
Childhood obesity is obviously a growing trend so when I see a toy that looks like it will be a lot of fun while getting my family up and off the sofa then I am willing to try it out. The HOOPERSIZE immediately brought me back to my childhood in the 80s and it also reminded me that I lack certain coordination skills. No matter, I still moved my hips to try and get this hoop a going. I was laughing and smiling the whole time and I did manage to get it going several times.
Not to be outdone Big Sis at almost 5 had to give it a try too. I was literally floored when she managed to get the hoop going a few times around her. She obviously gets her hooping skills from her Daddy!
Hooping burns approximately 210 calories per 30-minute session ? which falls within accepted guidelines for exercise that can contribute to weight management. KidTribe’s program is a full body workout the tones and strengthens every major muscle group as it builds cardiovascular health, hand-eye coordination, focusing ability, and creative self-expression. But kids just think it’s fun!
The nice thing about HOOPERSIZE is that once your child masters the art of the plain old hula then they can move on to impressive tricks and hoop dance moves with the help of the DVDs that are included. There are “hoopy” games, hip-hop-hoop routines and finally nutrition tips and recipes as well.
KidTribe is so popular for its infectious routines that it has been a staple at the White House Easter Egg Roll in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013! Almost double the number relished the 2011 Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play festival in DC and an amazing 65,000 families are expected at the much-anticipated Nickelodeon 2013 Worldwide Day of Play in NYC. Over 3.5 million kids and teachers have participated in KidTribe’s award winning school assembly programs with Hoopapalooza.
I definitely felt like I had a workout and that was just after hooping for 15 minutes! HOOPERSIZE is an easy and fun way to get kids and adults moving their hips to the beat.
