ABCmouse.com offers a full online preschool ? kindergarten curriculum, containing over 2,000 learning activities in the subjects of Reading, Math, Beginning Science, Social Studies, Art, and Music. Our goal is to make learning fun for children, while giving them a head start so that they are successful in all future years of schooling.
You might have seen those commercials for ABCmouse.com on TV and just ignored them, much like I have for years. I just never thought to go over and actually check out the website.
Basically it is an amazing website that offers hundreds of hours of early education curriculum for your child to play and learn at the same time. You set up an avatar for your little one and set it to the appropriate skill level for them to start at and you are ready to go.
Since my daughter has zero computer experience and only ever gets to play on an iPod touch I set hers at the lowest Preschool level. This has proved great since a lot of the activities are easy for her but gives her an opportunity to work the mouse and learn how to play on a computer. There are settings on a lot of them to change the difficulty level and you can always raise the level up to whatever you want.
We both especially love learning about animals!
For each activity that your child does they earn tickets in which they go to the online store and purchase stuff for their avatar or virtual pet. I personally thought it was a bit silly but my 4.5 year old proved me wrong. She LOVES earning tickets to buy things and especially loves getting stuff for her new virtual pet hamster! Since an actual hamster is out of the question at her age in our house this is the next best thing!
She gets so excited when I let her play for 30 minutes or so after her Little Sister has gone to bed. We can’t have a 21 month old climbing all over us wanting to play too. Her turn will come soon! You can set up your account with 3 different children and the site can track their progress separately.
Honestly this website surprised me with how much fun it is all while she learns at the same time! So many different activities and she has loved every single one so far! It is like my daughter is now addicted to learning! To really get a feel for the site head on over and try it for a month for free. This way you can try it out for yourself and you might surprise yourself with how great it really is and all for the price of about a paperback book a month.
